Position Summary
The Medical Laboratory Technician/Technologist/Scientist performs a variety of laboratory procedures used in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Responsibilities include specimen collection, testing, quality control, and reporting accurate laboratory results while maintaining compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
Essential Responsibilities
Perform laboratory testing in Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Blood Bank, Urinalysis, and other laboratory departments as assigned.
Analyze and interpret patient specimens accurately and efficiently.
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation.
Perform quality control and quality assurance procedures.
Maintain laboratory records and documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Assist with specimen collection and processing.
Review and verify laboratory test results.
Ensure compliance with infection control and laboratory safety standards.
Communicate effectively with providers, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals.
Participate in proficiency testing and continuing education activities.
Contribute to a positive, patient-focused work environment.
Qualifications
Required
Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) or Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MT/MLS).
Current certification or eligibility through ASCP/AMT or equivalent accrediting agency.
Knowledge of laboratory regulations, procedures, and quality standards.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred
Previous hospital laboratory experience.
Experience with laboratory information systems.
Cross-training in multiple laboratory disciplines.
