What are some common challenges faced by medical interns during their rotations, and how can they effectively manage them?

Medical interns often face challenges such as adjusting to long working hours, managing multiple patients, and rapidly learning new protocols across different specialties. Balancing clinical responsibilities with ongoing learning and documentation can be overwhelming at first. Effective time management, seeking guidance from senior residents and attending physicians, and proactively communicating with the healthcare team can help interns navigate these challenges successfully. Building a support network among fellow interns and prioritizing self-care are also essential for maintaining well-being during this demanding year.

What is a medical intern?

Medical interns are recent medical school graduates who are undergoing their first year of practical training in a hospital or clinical setting. This period, often called the internship or intern year, allows them to gain hands-on experience under the supervision of licensed physicians. Interns rotate through various medical specialties to develop clinical skills and prepare for residency. They perform tasks such as taking patient histories, conducting physical exams, prescribing medications, and assisting in procedures. The medical internship is a crucial step in becoming a fully licensed doctor.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a medical intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Medical Intern, you need a strong grasp of medical knowledge, clinical procedures, and patient care, typically gained through completion of medical school and passing relevant licensing exams. Excellent communication, teamwork, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for collaborating with healthcare teams and learning in a fast-paced environment. These skills and qualities are vital to ensure patient safety, effective learning, and successful integration into clinical practice.

What can medical interns do?

Medical interns are students or recent graduates in medical training who assist healthcare professionals by taking patient histories, performing basic examinations, and supporting clinical procedures under supervision. They gain hands-on experience, develop clinical skills, and often complete rotations in various medical specialties during their internship period.

Job description

Join a locally owned Great Clips salon team and start building real-world salon experience while you're still in school. The Hair Stylist Intern role is designed for cosmetology and barber students who want to learn what salon life is really like, connect with a professional team, and prepare for a smooth transition into a licensed stylist role after graduation.

This opportunity is ideal for students who are curious, motivated, and excited to grow their skills in a supportive salon environment.

Congratulations on completing cosmetology school! Are you ready to start your apprenticeship and launch your career? Triangle Holdings is here to support you. We offer paid in-salon training and virtual training with a Great Clips educator. As an apprentice, you can earn $18-$25 per hour, including commission on services and products. We also provide medical insurance, short-term disability, and retirement benefits. If this sounds like the opportunity you've been looking for, we'd love to hear from you!

Why you'll love it here

Great Clips salons offer internship experiences that help students learn, grow, and feel confident stepping into the industry:

  • Exposure to a successful, stable salon brand and professional salon environment
  • The opportunity to build relationships with experienced stylists and salon leaders
  • Hands-on learning around salon operations, customer service, and teamwork
  • Opportunities to observe and support haircutting and finishing techniques, as allowed by state regulations
  • Experience using salon systems, tools, and technology
  • A supportive setting to ask questions, learn expectations, and understand day-to-day salon life
  • A pathway to future opportunities as a licensed stylist, where available

Program structure, scheduling, and responsibilities may vary by salon location, as internship programs are created and managed by individual Great Clips salon organizations.

What you bring to the team

To be considered for a Hair Stylist Intern opportunity, you'll need:

  • Current enrollment in a cosmetology or barber program
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Strong communication skills and a professional mindset
  • A desire to work as part of a team and support a great salon experience
  • Reliability, curiosity, and openness to feedback

About Great Clips

Sourced by ZipRecruiter

Great Clips, Inc. was established in Minneapolis, Minnesota by founders David Rubenzer and Steve Lemmon in 1982, a time when most people received haircuts in one of three ways: in full-service hair salons, from barbershops or at home. As a stylist and businessman, David could see that the industry was changing. Customers were looking for a hair salon service that could fit their busy lifestyles and desire for value. To be part of that change – rather than find themselves competing with it – David and Steve developed the then-radical concept of a walk-in haircare salon with weekend and evening hours, offering customers a select list of services, and providing benefits for stylists. After the founders opened several successful hair salons, Ray Barton joined David and Steve as an owner in March 1983. With Ray's help and expertise in franchising, the trio set about growing the Great Clips hair salon brand. That success continues through today.
