JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Cardiac Device Specialist provides technical, clinical and related services in the area of Electrophysiology and Cardiology relative to Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices (CIED's) in the ambulatory and inpatient setting. The Cardiac Device Specialist must possess the ability to setup, operate, and troubleshoot various CIED programmers and be proficient in deciphering complex Cardiac Device data. In collaboration with the Program Medical Director and Cardiology Team provide quality patient care for accurate CIED management, arrhythmia interpretation and device utilization for noninvasive arrhythmia protocols. Management and interpretation of CIED remote data and comprehensive knowledge of the necessary navigation of remote sites is required. The candidate must demonstrate global Cardiac Device knowledge to Physicians and have the capacity to communicate various Cardiac Device applications to patients in a concise manner. This position functions in a highly specialized and unique area and requires a high level of clinical knowledge and independence.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's Degree in Technical, Engineering, Nursing, or Health Science required. Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences/Exercise Science or other related field preferred.
  • Documented formal training in medical terminology or equivalent work experience
  • Training in cardiac device programming education for multiple brand Implanted Cardiac Electronic Devices (Pacemakers, Implanted Cardioverter Defibrillators, and Implanted Loop Recorders) with the various device companies, including Medtronic, Abbott (St. Jude Medical), Biotronic, and Boston Scientific required; however, candidates with two years' experience as a Cardiac Device Technician, Electrophysiology Technician, Exercise Physiologist, or equivalent (required) will be considered for required training.
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive Cardiac Device Education Program preferred.
  • Three years' experience in a medical cardiology setting preferred.

LICENSURE/CREDENTIALS

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire
  • ACLS certification required within 90 days of hire
  • International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners Certification (IBHRE) preferred: Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) or Certified Electrophysiology Specialist (CCEPS).
