Job description

Position Summary
  • Position reports to the Director of Medical Communications within Global Medical Oncology (GMO) and is responsible for the planning and timely execution of scientifically accurate and strategically aligned communications plans for medical communication needs of the markets related to specified asset(s) in GMO.
Medical Communications Strategy
  • Lead across the BMS matrix to develop and timely deliver strategically aligned medical publications, scientific content, medical information, medical education/training content, and congress presentations.
  • Ensure governance endorsement prior to execution; maintain plans in alignment with scientific landscape and Local Market Medical, Global Medical, and medical market strategy.
  • Serve as Medical Communications point of contact between Global Medical and other matrix partners; provide communications management oversight.
  • Own pull-through and execution of the Scientific Narrative and integrated publication/content plans, applied to the Scientific Communication Platform (SCP).
  • Manage the Medical Communications budget; demonstrate strong business acumen.
Data Dissemination
  • Act as a subject matter expert for internal audiences on communication landscape, HCP preferences, publication/scientific content planning, and data disclosure/dissemination; represent BMS to external investigators, key authors, and journal editors.
  • Ensure publications follow publication best practices and BMS standards aligned with Good Publication Practices.
  • Support therapeutic disease expertise, collaboration with disease-area experts, quality data analysis/interpretation, and disclosure/dissemination.
  • Collect insights to drive impactful dialogue with customers.
  • Improve processes/tools/operating procedures and outsourcing strategy to ensure consistent delivery and standards.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build relationships with academic/clinical experts, publishers, medical associations, and other stakeholders.
  • Partner with TA Medical Communication Leads, Market Medical, and others to assess/plan/allocate resources (budget, medical writing, biostatistical services).
  • Manage external vendor partnerships and execution balance.
  • Establish and communicate metrics to medical stakeholders.
Other Responsibilities
  • Model teamwork, accountability, and quality; mentor other leads.
  • Ensure audit and inspection readiness.
  • Ensure diversity and inclusion in decision-making and talent development.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Advanced scientific degree (PharmD, PhD, or MD preferred).
  • 5+ years pharmaceutical/healthcare experience in medical communications (local and global preferred).
  • Strategic leadership; ability to drive performance and build alignment; negotiate and collaborate.
  • Cross-functional, cross-cultural matrix experience across markets and global geographies.
  • Ability to work in ambiguity; lead with multiple priorities and tight timelines.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Outstanding written/verbal communication and time management.
  • Experience leading medical communications across drug development and commercialization phases.
  • Ability to analyze/interpret trial data; influence/establish stakeholder relationships.
  • Flexibility for teleconferences/virtual meetings across time zones; travel domestically and internationally.
Knowledge Desired
  • Good Publication Practices (GPP, ICMJE), Sunshine Act, Pharma Code of Conduct, post-marketing data communication.
  • CMPP and/or active ISMPP membership highly desired.
  • Clinical trial design/execution, statistical methods, and data reporting requirements.
  • Microsoft suite; publication management tools (DataVision/iEnvision) familiarity.
