What is the difference between Medical Coding Using Ai vs Medical Coding Specialist?

AspectMedical Coding Using AiMedical Coding Specialist
CredentialsNone required; relies on AI softwareCertification (e.g., CPC, CCS)
Work EnvironmentPrimarily digital, often remoteOffice or remote, depending on employer
Industry UsageUsed by healthcare providers and tech companiesEmployed by hospitals, clinics, insurance companies
Job FocusAI-driven coding automation and oversightManual coding, review, and compliance

Medical Coding Using Ai involves leveraging artificial intelligence to automate and assist coding tasks, reducing manual effort. In contrast, a Medical Coding Specialist manually reviews and assigns codes based on medical records, requiring certification and expertise. While AI enhances efficiency, specialists ensure accuracy and compliance. Both roles are vital in healthcare billing and coding workflows, often working together to optimize processes.

How much do AI coders get paid?

Medical coders using AI typically earn between $40,000 and $70,000 annually, depending on experience, certification, and location. Advanced skills in coding software and AI tools can lead to higher salaries, especially in specialized or senior roles.

Will medical coding jobs be taken by AI?

Medical coding jobs involve translating clinical information into standardized codes and require attention to detail, critical thinking, and understanding of medical terminology. AI tools are increasingly used to assist with coding tasks, but human oversight remains essential to ensure accuracy and handle complex cases. Therefore, while AI may automate some aspects, medical coders will continue to play a vital role in the healthcare industry.

How is AI used in medical coding?

Medical coders using AI leverage machine learning algorithms to automate the translation of clinical documentation into standardized codes, increasing accuracy and efficiency. AI tools can assist in identifying relevant codes, reducing manual errors, and speeding up the coding process, often requiring familiarity with coding software and healthcare data standards.

How does working with AI tools change the daily workflow for medical coders?

Integrating AI tools into medical coding streamlines many routine tasks, such as extracting relevant information from clinical notes and suggesting appropriate codes. This allows medical coders to focus more on complex cases, code validation, and quality assurance. Collaboration with IT specialists and healthcare providers may increase as coders provide feedback on AI system performance and help refine its accuracy. Adapting to new technologies can be a challenge at first, but it often leads to improved productivity, fewer manual errors, and opportunities for professional development in health informatics.

Which 3 jobs will survive AI?

Medical coding using AI is transforming the healthcare industry, but roles like medical coders, healthcare administrators, and clinical data managers are likely to persist due to the need for human oversight, complex decision-making, and ethical considerations. These jobs require critical thinking, certification, and adaptability to new tools, making them more resilient to automation.

What is medical coding using AI?

Medical coding using AI refers to the application of artificial intelligence technologies to automate the process of translating healthcare diagnoses, procedures, and services into standardized codes. AI-powered systems use natural language processing and machine learning to analyze clinical documentation and accurately assign the appropriate medical codes. This helps healthcare providers improve efficiency, reduce errors, and ensure proper billing and reimbursement. As AI continues to evolve, it is increasingly being integrated into healthcare revenue cycle management to streamline operations and support compliance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Medical Coding Using AI specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Medical Coding Using AI specialist, you need a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding standards (like ICD-10 and CPT), and healthcare compliance, often supported by a certification such as CPC or CCS. Familiarity with AI-based coding platforms, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and healthcare data analytics tools is typically required. Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for interpreting complex records and working with evolving technologies. These skills ensure accurate, efficient coding and compliance with regulations, enabling healthcare organizations to optimize billing and patient care.

Job Description

What is the opportunity?

Are you passionate about bringing product ideas to life? Do you thrive in highly collaborative environments, working with diverse teams to deliver impactful solutions? Are you eager to develop innovative products that transform how application teams deliver software to their customers? If so, the RBC Enterprise Architecture team is looking for you!

The Application and Integration Architecture team within Enterprise Architecture enables the enterprise to deliver business value faster through well-architected applications and seamless integrations. We are seeking a Technical Product Manager to drive our product strategy across key initiatives: Agentic AI governance and adoption, the Modernization Factory (leveraging AI to turn enterprise architecture data into actionable modernization insights), enterprise architecture strategy, and reuse and rationalization. You will own the roadmap, build community, and ensure alignment with enterprise priorities.

This role requires a technical mindset with development background and the appetite to get hands-on with vibe coding using agentic development technologies. You must be experienced with Generative AI tools for document creation and prompt engineering, and comfortable collaborating with engineering, security, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, innovative solutions.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with Canada's leading bank and contribute to a team that values learning, creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration.

What will you do?

  • Define and maintain the product strategy and roadmap for Application and Integration Architecture, aligning to group priorities and business objectives. Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and prioritize features, capabilities, and use cases.
  • Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of application architecture governance and internal agent development. Help define and implement governance frameworks including security, risk management, and compliance.
  • Build and lead a community of practitioners across the organization to drive the adoption of modern application patterns, integration standards, and Agentic AI. Partner with Line of Business teams to identify opportunities for modernization and transformation.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of architecture initiatives. Continuously optimize processes, tools, and technologies used to deliver our products.
  • Provide product leadership and mentorship to our team of engineers and partners, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • Author white papers and points of view. Communicate technical concepts and project updates effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Oversee architecture governance practices, including the automation of governance activities using AI, GitOps, Policy as Code, and LeanIX. Ensure technical reference models and patterns are up to date.
  • Get hands-on with agentic development. Demonstrate vibe coding using AI tools from a Product Manager angle and help prototype concepts rapidly.

What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

  • 6+ years of Product Management & Agile experience: Proven track record in driving product discussions, market scans, user experience research, software development, and delivery.
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems in ambiguous, fast-paced environments, with a focus on delivering practical solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of Generative AI, including familiarity with agentic AI concepts (e.g., MCP, RAG, reasoning, planning, multi-agent systems).
  • Experience with Jira, Agile methodologies, GitHub, and CI/CD practices.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native architectures, microservices, and containerization/orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Some programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or similar.

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity with tooling and infrastructure for AI agents, such as agent gateways, registries, or control planes.
  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks and principles.
  • Familiarity with application architecture patterns and integration technologies.
  • LeanIX APM experience.

What's in it for you?

We thrive on the challenge to be our best, progressive thinking to keep growing, and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper. We care about each other, reaching our potential, making a difference to our communities, and achieving success that is mutual.

  • A comprehensive Total Rewards Program including bonuses and flexible benefits, competitive compensation, commissions, and stock where applicable
  • Leaders who support your development through coaching and managing opportunities
  • Ability to make a difference and lasting impact
  • Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team
  • Opportunities to do challenging work
