  • JOB RELATIONSHIPS
    • Responsible to the Director of Cancer Treatment Services. Consults with members of the Patient Care Services Leadership and Hospital Leadership staff as appropriate.
  • DEFINITION OF POSITION
    • The Medical Social Worker is a Masters prepared individual who is responsible for providing social work services to patients and families of the Cancer Treatment Clinics, in conjunction with interdisciplinary health care team members.
  • QUALIFICATIONS
    • Professional
      • Master of Social Work degree from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education preferred and two to three years of post-masters experience in a health care setting such as a hospital, mental health setting, extended care facility, or home care agency.
      • Knowledge of applicable legal responsibilities/restrictions and current trends in social work pertinent to the medical and oncology practice settings.
      • Knowledge of acute, chronic and terminal illnesses, mental and physical disabilities and normal developmental process and the impact on family systems.
      • Evidence of participation in ongoing continuing education programs.
      • Knowledge of and adherence to the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics.
