Job description

Family Physician - House Medical Officer (HMO) (1849)

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Family Medicine Program is seeking family physicians for House Medical Officer (HMO) positions at Seven Oaks Hospital. The HMO would review newly transferred patients to SOGH inpatient units as they arrive from outside facilities and facilitate medication reconciliation. The HMO would also provide medical coverage to outpatient dialysis patients and inpatient medical patients admitted to Low Acuity Community Medicine units, Geriatric Rehab units, and those awaiting a bed while To Be Admitted in Urgent Care. The HMO would be called to respond to patients experiencing unexpected medical urgencies as Code 25s. The HMO would be responsible for assessing, investigating and treating decompensating patients, and then liaising with the most responsible provider. Should a patient further deteriorate, they would help facilitate transport to a tertiary care facility within the region. They would have full backup support for Code Blue situations by SOGH EMOs in Urgency Care.

The HMO would be scheduled shifts from 1600-2400hrs to provide in-house coverage. Expectations may include minor procedural skills such as casting, suturing or controlling epistaxis.

Qualifications:

  • Must be eligible for licensure and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba (CPSM)
  • CCFP or other relevant postgraduate training is preferred
  • Have and maintain liability/malpractice coverage with CMPA or equivalent coverage with an insurance carrier satisfactory to the WRHA
  • Active certification in ACLS

Compensation: Compensation will be provided in the form of a stipend.
