WELLSTAR

Toronto, ON โ€ข On-site

Full-time

Posted 11 days ago

Job description

Who we are

At WELLSTAR, we are committed to reshaping Canadian healthcare by leveraging technology to address the administrative burdens that pull physicians away from their true calling—patient care. Our mission is to support providers and patients, shifting the emphasis back to quality, timeliness, and positive outcomes. With a comprehensive suite of technology solutions, we have successfully helped thousands of providers adopt and benefit from modern, interoperable technologies that improve patient outcomes and system efficiency.

Whether you are in research and development, administration, communications, operations leadership, or technology, joining us now is an opportunity to play a critical role in transforming how healthcare is managed and experienced in Canada.

DoctorCare was acquired by WELLSTAR in 2020, and we now operate as part of Canada’s leading healthcare technology ecosystem, benefiting from the comprehensive resources and expertise of a company that serves over 40% of practitioners nationwide.

The opportunity

DoctorCare is hiring a Medical Billing Assistant  to join the Customer Operations team.  As our new Medical Billing Assistant, you will support physicians and Medical Billing Specialists by processing claims, maintaining accurate billing records, and resolving routine billing inquiries. This is an excellent opportunity to build expertise in Ontario medical billing while developing your career.

This is a role where your attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to build trusted relationships will make a direct impact. You will work with electronic medical records (EMRs), billing systems, and provincial healthcare processes while collaborating with colleagues and customers to resolve questions, identify billing opportunities, and continuously improve how services are delivered. Whether you already have medical billing experience or are eager to build it, you will receive training, coaching, and support from experienced team members as you grow your knowledge of Ontario's healthcare billing landscape.

This is a full-time hybrid role based in Toronto, with an expectation of working in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

What’s in it for you

Build valuable expertise. Whether you already have experience in medical billing or are looking to deepen your knowledge, you will receive hands-on training, mentorship, and ongoing coaching from experienced team members. You will develop a strong understanding of Ontario's healthcare billing system, EMRs, and physician practice operations while building skills that can support a long-term career in healthcare administration and customer operations.

Make a meaningful impact. Your work will directly support physicians and their teams by helping them navigate billing processes, resolve issues efficiently, and maximize billing accuracy. Behind every claim you process and every customer question you resolve is an opportunity to help healthcare providers spend less time on administration and more time caring for patients.

Join a growing, collaborative team. This is an exciting time to join DoctorCare as the business continues to evolve and expand. You will be part of a supportive team that values curiosity, initiative, and continuous improvement, where your ideas to improve processes and enhance the customer experience will be welcomed. Whether you work from our Toronto office or remotely within Canada, you will have the support, tools, and flexibility to do your best work.

How you will make an impact:

  • Support billing accuracy. You will review claims for completeness, identify routine discrepancies, escalate complex issues to Medical Billing Specialists, and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Deliver an exceptional customer experience. You will respond to routine customer questions, gather required information, and coordinate with Medical Billing Specialists to ensure timely issue resolution.
  • Identify opportunities to improve outcomes. You will use your analytical skills to investigate billing discrepancies, identify revenue opportunities, and collaborate with internal teams and the Ministry of Health to resolve issues and improve claim outcomes. You will also recommend process improvements that enhance workflows, strengthen service delivery, and continuously improve the experience for both physicians and your colleagues.

What you bring:

  • The customer service mindset. You understand that every interaction is an opportunity to build trust. You enjoy helping others and are committed to delivering a positive customer experience through patience, professionalism, and clear communication.
  • The attention to detail. You take pride in producing accurate work and have experience managing detailed information with care. You are comfortable reviewing data, identifying discrepancies, and following established processes to ensure billing information is complete, compliant, and submitted correctly.
  • The learning agility. You're curious, adaptable, and excited to learn medical billing, healthcare processes, and new technologies. Previous experience with OHIP billing, EMRs, or medical billing software is an asset but not required.
  • The organization and initiative. You can prioritize tasks, stay organized in a fast-paced environment, and take ownership of your work while asking thoughtful questions when needed.
  • The collaborative mindset. You enjoy working as part of a supportive team, are open to feedback, and contribute positively to achieving shared goals.

What you can expect from our interview process:

  • A virtual interview with a Talent Advisor to discuss your interest in joining DoctorCare and your experience. The conversation will be recorded using BrightHire, an AI-powered interview platform. More details will be shared when you are invited to interview.
  • A virtual or in-person interview with the service delivery managers and/or Director of Customer Operations focused on your skills and experience, team fit and the opportunity to learn more about the role and DoctorCare.
