Job Summary and Qualifications
  • Know policies, procedures and practices necessary to carry out the normal functions of laboratory clinical areas.
  • Make decisions and establish priorities on procedure-oriented operations. Work in an independent manner with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrate initial and annual competency in designated lab sections, including phlebotomy as needed.
  • Prioritize work to ensure completion within the assigned shift and within expected intervals, e.g. Stat, Routine, and timed specimens.
  • Maintain constructive, open communication with other supervisors, co-workers and customers, both internal and external. Demonstrate awareness of patient/client expectation and seek to satisfy.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all laboratory computer related tasks, including: email, corrected reports, correct documentation, faxing, add-on tests and cancellations, creating and receiving site batches and all functions of the LIS (Laboratory Information System).
  • Perform and document instrument maintenance. Perform quality control according to established procedures. Troubleshoot instruments effectively.
  • Possess an understanding of and ability to participate in Laboratory initiatives to include Quality Assurance, Safety Plans/Policies, Billing Compliance, Code of Conduct, and HIPAA requirements as they relate to the position, the laboratory department, and the facility. Respect and adhere to the mission, vision, and values of Parkland Medical Center.

Education & Qualifications :

  • Required: Bachelors degree from an accredited program of Clinical Laboratory Science. ASCP eligible certification or equivalent.
  • Preferred: ASCP certified
