Shift/Core Hours: Monday-Friday 8:30AM-5:00PM

Summary/Primary Role:

The Gastroenterology Physician Assistant provides comprehensive, patient-centered care to patients with gastrointestinal conditions across the continuum of diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. The NP evaluates patients, obtains medical histories, performs physical examinations, develops and manages treatment plans, orders and interprets diagnostic testing, prescribes medications, and provides patient education and counseling. Working collaboratively with gastroenterologists and the multidisciplinary care team, the NP supports efficient, high-quality care and helps ensure continuity of care for patients in the outpatient setting.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Works in collaboration with physicians and other health care providers to provide health care across the continuum of care to assigned patients.

  • Performs hospital rounds of new consults and follow-up patients and assists in discharge of patients.

  • Obtains patient medical, physical and psycho-social history and performs comprehensive health assessment including physical exam, based on age and history.

  • Conducts non-invasive preventive screening procedures based on age and history.

  • Identifies medical and health risks and needs. Updates and records changes in health status in EMR.

  • Formulates the appropriate differential diagnosis based on history, physical examination, and clinical findings.

  • Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests and laboratory studies within protocol guidelines.

  • Develops and provides a relevant patient education plan.

  • Prescribes and administers appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies.

  • Makes appropriate referrals to other health professionals and community agencies.

  • Determines the effectiveness of the plan of care through documentation of client care outcomes.

  • Reassesses and modifies the treatment plan as necessary to achieve medical and health goals.

  • Completes all documentation in EMR in a timely fashion. Codes patient visits accurately and appropriately and submits all billing in a timely fashion (standard 72 business hours from time of service rendered).

  • Participates in quality assurance review on a periodic basis, including systematic review of records and treatment plans.

  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.

  • Consults other departments, as needed and as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs, and to meet the needs of the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program; NYS licensed.

  • 2+ years preferred related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrates an ability to utilize advanced health assessment and decision-making skills.

  • Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity; a self-starter; compatible and supportive; a team player.

  • Maintains a good working relationship and effective communication both within the department and with other departments for the benefit of the patient.

  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function in stressful situations.

  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.

  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.

  • Attends outside clinical updates as required and attends annual review and department in-services as scheduled.

  • Complies with all regulatory requirements and standards.

  • Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position does not have supervisory responsibility.

Expected Hours of Work:

An Employee must work a minimum of thirty (30) hours each week to maintain full-time status for benefit eligibility purposes, consistent with the requirements of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the Practice's benefits plan. Notwithstanding this benefits eligibility threshold, the expectations of the position require employees to work an average of forty (40) hours with overtime required as scheduled based on operational needs. Non-exempt employees are eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws, while exempt employees may be required to work additional hours as necessary to fulfill their job responsibilities. Overtime requirements will be determined based on the operational needs of the organization.

The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining an employee’s base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, and internal equity). Premier Medical Group also offers a comprehensive set of benefits to compliment the base salary. The base annual salary range for this position is $120,000 - $150,000.

Travel Requirements:

Travel between Premier Medical Group office locations may be required.
