To learn more visit Doctors Hospital of Laredo Job Summary: As defined by the American College of Surgeons, the Surgical First Assistant is a trained individual who is able to participate in an actively assist the surgeon in completing the operation safely and expeditiously providing aid in exposure, hemostasis and other technical functions that will help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. The role of the Surgical First Assistant is vital to the operating room and any surgical case within the operating suite. The Surgical First Assistant provides immediate support to the surgeon and should be knowledgeable, well rounded, helpful, and supportive team like attitude.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate form an accredited Surgical Technologist program required
  • Willingness to be cross trained to other areas
  • Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to DHL's Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer

Education/Licensure

  • Current certification as a Certified Surgical First Assistant with one of the following certifying bodies: American Board of Surgical Assistants National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (preferred) National Surgical Assistant Association
  • Must have and maintain current BLS certification, according to unit specific needs. Certification must be in accordance with the curriculum of the AHA, for Healthcare Provider's Program.
