Overview

Medical Coding Supervisor, Health Information Management. Location: Nyack, NY. Department: Health Information Management. Shift: Day. Schedule: MON-FRI, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM. Hours per week: 40.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the daily operations of the hospital coding team; ensure accurate, timely, and compliant coding of inpatient and outpatient medical records.
  • Support the coding manager by enforcing coding standards and helping maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate daily workflow for inpatient and outpatient staff.
  • Monitor productivity, accuracy, and quality metrics; assist in implementing performance improvement plans as needed to optimize coding in collaboration with the coding manager.
  • Review and audit outpatient coded records to ensure compliance with ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT/HCPCS guidelines.
  • Accurately assign codes to meet established guidelines including ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS, and Modifiers.
  • Support coding related to denials and appeals processes.
  • Ensure timely coding to meet billing and compliance guidelines; maintain work queues within 72 hours.
  • Assist in reviewing Local Coverage Determinations (LCD) and National Coverage Determinations (NCD) edits to ensure diagnoses are accurately captured and documented.
Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of inpatient/outpatient coding experience; HIM experience; minimum 3 years in leadership or supervisory role.
  • Required RHIT or RHIA; CCS/CCSP; CPC with extensive coding knowledge.
