Job description

Ogburn Electric Company, Inc. – Winston-Salem, NC

Company Overview

Ogburn Electric Company, Inc. is a trusted electrical contractor serving Winston-Salem and the surrounding Triad area. We are known for quality workmanship, strong safety standards, and a reputation built on integrity and community service. Our culture supports experienced electricians with modern equipment, clear processes, and opportunities to lead and grow.

About the Role

We are seeking a Lead Service Electrician to oversee day-to-day electrical service operations while remaining hands-on in the field. This role blends advanced electrical troubleshooting, customer-facing service work, and leadership of service technicians to ensure jobs are completed safely, efficiently, and to company standards.

This is not a desk role. You will set the tone in the field—technically, professionally, and culturally.

Key Responsibilities

Field Leadership & Service Oversight

  • Lead and coordinate daily service calls, emergency repairs, and preventive maintenance work for commercial and residential clients.

  • Serve as the primary on-site leader for service work, ensuring jobs are completed on time, within scope, and to code.

  • Prioritize and manage multiple service calls efficiently while maintaining high-quality workmanship.

Technical Execution

  • Diagnose and repair complex electrical systems including panels, lighting systems, motor controls, generators, and emergency power.

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting using strong NEC knowledge and practical field experience.

  • Ensure all work complies with NEC, local codes, and company quality standards

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise, mentor, and train junior service electricians and apprentices.

  • Assign tasks, review completed work, and provide real-time coaching to improve skill level and productivity.

  • Set expectations for professionalism, safety, and customer interaction in the field.

Customer & Communication Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact on service jobs, communicating clearly with customers, property managers, and internal staff.

  • Assess customer needs, explain findings, recommend solutions, and provide accurate labor and material estimates.

  • Represent Ogburn Electric professionally at all times, reinforcing trust and long-term relationships.

Operations & Accountability

  • Complete service documentation, job notes, and material usage accurately and promptly.

  • Coordinate with the office on scheduling, parts needs, follow-up work, and job closeout.

  • Maintain company service truck, tools, and inventory in clean, organized, and ready-to-work condition.

  • Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation and lead emergency response when required.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent experience (Master Electrician preferred).

  • 5+ years of electrical service experience, including commercial troubleshooting.

  • Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local regulations.

  • Proven experience leading crews, mentoring apprentices, or acting as a senior service technician.

  • Excellent customer communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, climbing, and working at heights.

Preferred Attributes

  • Confident decision-maker who takes ownership of outcomes.

  • Organized, disciplined, and able to manage multiple priorities without sacrificing quality.

  • Calm under pressure and effective in emergency or time-sensitive situations.

  • Safety-focused leader who sets the standard for the team.

  • Committed to continuous improvement—personally and for those they lead.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation with pay aligned to leadership responsibility and experience.

  • Company service truck and access to modern tools and equipment.

  • Benefits package including medical coverage and paid time off.

  • Ongoing training, continuing education, and a clear path into supervisory or management roles.

  • A stable, team-oriented company that values craftsmanship, accountability, and community reputation.

Bottom Line

If you are a seasoned service electrician who wants more than just a truck and a to-do list—and you take pride in leading people, solving tough problems, and representing a company well—this role gives you the authority and support to do exactly that.
