Job description

UNM Medical Group, Inc. is hiring for a Medical Assistant to join our Truman Health Services team. This opportunity is a full-time day shift opening located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Sign-On Bonus - $2,000

Minimum $38,958 - Midpoint $47,819*

*Salary is determined based on years of total relevant experience.

*Salary is based on 1.0 FTE (full time equivalent) or 40 hours per week. Less than 40 hours/week will be prorated and adjusted to the appropriate FTE.

Summary:

  • Provides direct service to patients in a UNMMG Ambulatory Clinic, including registration, demographic verification, and appointment scheduling.
  • Handles insurance-related tasks such as verifying benefits, obtaining referrals, and managing prior authorizations.
  • Conducts patient check-in/check-out, collects co-pays, and gathers patient data and medical history.

Minimum Job Requirements of a Medical Assistant:

  1. High school diploma or GED and
  2. Medical Assistant Program Graduate Certificate and
  3. If applicable; current Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
  4. BLS certification

Verification of education and licensure (if applicable) will be required if selected for hire.

Summary:

Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of administrative and clinical Medical Assistant functions in a UNMMG Ambulatory Clinic including but not limited to direct service to patients either by phone or in person by conducting patient registration, verifying demographics, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance benefit/eligibility information, obtaining referral and prior authorizations with insurance carriers, performing patient check in/check out, and collecting co-pays. Collects patient data and/or medical history and performs routine Medical Assistant functions.
