What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Medical Assistant RMA, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Medical Assistant RMA, you need a solid understanding of clinical procedures, medical terminology, and administrative tasks, usually supported by a medical assistant certificate and RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) certification. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems, scheduling software, and basic medical equipment is typically required. Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask help you stand out in this position. These skills and qualities are vital for ensuring efficient patient care, accurate record-keeping, and smooth healthcare operations.

How does a Medical Assistant RMA typically collaborate with physicians and other healthcare staff during a busy clinic day?

Medical Assistant RMAs work closely with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure smooth patient flow and high-quality care. They are often responsible for preparing exam rooms, taking patient histories, and assisting with minor procedures, which requires clear communication and teamwork. RMAs also help coordinate patient scheduling, relay instructions from providers, and may manage follow-up calls or documentation. Effective collaboration and adaptability are essential, especially during high-volume periods, to support both patients and the clinical team.

What are Medical Assistant RMAs?

Medical Assistant RMAs, or Registered Medical Assistants, are healthcare professionals who provide both administrative and clinical support in medical settings such as clinics, hospitals, and physicians' offices. Their duties include preparing patients for exams, taking vital signs, assisting with procedures, scheduling appointments, and maintaining medical records. RMAs have completed accredited medical assisting programs and have passed a certification exam to demonstrate their skills and knowledge. They play a crucial role in helping healthcare teams deliver efficient and high-quality patient care.

How to make $100,000 as a medical assistant?

Earning $100,000 as a medical assistant typically requires gaining advanced certifications, such as Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), specializing in high-demand areas, working in high-paying healthcare settings, and accumulating significant experience. Some medical assistants increase their income by taking on additional responsibilities, working overtime, or pursuing roles in specialized clinics or administrative leadership positions.

What is the difference between Medical Assistant Rma vs Medical Assistant?

AspectMedical Assistant RmaMedical Assistant
CertificationsRegistered Medical Assistant (RMA) certificationCertified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification
Work EnvironmentClinics, outpatient facilities, hospitalsDoctor's offices, clinics, outpatient settings
Job ResponsibilitiesClinical tasks, patient prep, basic lab work, administrative dutiesClinical and administrative tasks, patient care, scheduling

Both Medical Assistant Rma and Medical Assistant roles involve clinical and administrative duties in healthcare settings. The key difference lies in certification: Medical Assistant Rma specifically holds the RMA credential, which can enhance job prospects and salary potential. Both roles are essential in outpatient and clinical environments, often overlapping in daily tasks.

What is an RMA medical assistant?

An RMA medical assistant is a healthcare professional who has earned the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification, demonstrating competence in clinical and administrative tasks such as taking vital signs, assisting with procedures, and managing patient records. They often work in outpatient clinics, hospitals, or physicians' offices and may perform tasks under the supervision of a healthcare provider. Certification typically requires passing an exam and maintaining ongoing education.

What jobs pay 10,000 a month without a degree?

A Medical Assistant Rma typically does not earn $10,000 a month without additional certifications or experience. High-paying jobs that can reach this level without a degree often include roles like sales managers, real estate brokers, or skilled trades such as electricians or plumbers, which may require specialized training or licensing. These positions usually involve experience, strong skills, or entrepreneurial efforts to achieve such income levels.

Does a CMA get paid more than a RMA?

A Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) and a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) are both clinical support roles, but pay can vary based on location, experience, and employer. Generally, RMAs may have a slight pay advantage due to certification requirements, but differences are often minimal and depend on the specific healthcare setting.

Medical Assistant (MA) - Back Office Orthopedic Clinic (Everett)
We are seeking a high-energy, collaborative Medical Assistant (MA) to join a thriving, fast-paced orthopedic practice in Everett. This position is ideal for an adaptable professional who thrives in a team-centric environment and enjoys keeping a steady pace throughout the day.
Whether you are an experienced MA looking for a dynamic team culture or a driven new graduate eager to learn specialized orthopedic care, this role offers an incredible environment for professional growth and active employee appreciation.
Position Details
  • Employment Type: Contract (1,040 hours to conversion)
  • Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours/week | Monday - Friday
  • Shift: Shifts typically begin at 7:30 AM or 8:00 AM (depending on provider schedules, which are released one month in advance)
  • Pay Range: $22.19 - $37.72 / hour (Depending on experience)
  • Location: Everett, WA (On-site)

Scope of Responsibilities
As a Back Office Medical Assistant, you will play a crucial role in maintaining seamless patient flow across two clinic floors. You will break down traditional clinical silos by working collaboratively with a large team of providers and staff.
  • Provider Support: Support a high-volume team consisting of 8 surgeons and 3 to 4 Physician Assistants (PAs).
  • Patient Care: Efficiently room patients, capture vital signs, and collaborate with screening staff to ensure a positive patient experience.
  • Clinic Flow: Manage daily provider schedules to optimize patient flow; patient volumes average 20-24 per day for surgeons and 15-20 per day for PAs.
  • Administrative Tasks: Perform thorough chart prepping at least once a week and ensure all documentation is ready for the medical team.
  • Floor Coverage: Flexibly float between the 2nd and 3rd clinic floors to assist where needed (no Ambulatory Surgery Center/ASC duties required).

Qualifications & Experience
Must-Have Skills
  • Licensure: Must hold an active Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential verified with the Department of Health (DOH). (Note: An MAP/Phlebotomist license alone is not a fit for this role).
  • Clinic Experience: Proven capability working in a busy, high-volume outpatient clinic setting.
  • Soft Skills: Must be a proactive team player who communicates openly, asks questions, and actively collaborates rather than working in isolation.

Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Prior clinical experience within orthopedics.
  • Familiarity with Epic or NextGen EMR systems (training will be provided if needed).
  • Open to driven, high-potential new graduates who possess the right personality and an ability to train up quickly.

Team Culture & Perks
This clinic prides itself on breaking the mold of rigid, siloed medical offices. Management actively fosters a welcoming, unified workspace where every team member is supported.
  • Active Employee Appreciation: Leadership frequently sponsors morale-boosting events, including local food truck visits, custom frozen yogurt setups, and high-quality appreciation gifts (like custom beach blankets and premium water bottles).
  • Robust Onboarding: Comprehensive training is provided on both EMR platforms and specialized orthopedic workflows to set you up for long-term success.

* We will consider for employment all qualified Applicants, including those with criminal histories, in a manner consistent with the requirements of applicable federal, state, and local laws, including the City of Los Angeles' Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance (FCIHO), Los Angeles Fair Chance Ordinance for Employers (ULAC), The San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance (FCO), and the California Fair Chance Act (CFCA).
* As a job position within our Allied division, a successful completion of a background check may be required as a condition of employment. This requirement is directly related to essential job functions including but not limited to: providing direct patient care, accessing medical and confidential records, accessing and administering prescription medication or other drugs, working within a clinical setting, handling sharp instruments, conducting medical procedures, and working within departments that care for vulnerable populations, such as, minors, elderly and those with physical or mental disabilities. Due to these job duties, this position has a significant impact on the business operations and reputation, as well as the safety and well-being of individuals who may be cared for as part of the job position or who may interact with staff or clients.
