What are Medical Assistant Programs?

Medical Assistant Programs are educational courses designed to train individuals in the skills required to become medical assistants. These programs typically cover subjects like medical terminology, anatomy, clinical procedures, and administrative tasks. They often include both classroom instruction and hands-on clinical experience. Graduates are prepared to work in healthcare settings such as doctors' offices, clinics, and hospitals. Completion of an accredited program also makes students eligible to sit for certification exams, which can improve job prospects.

What types of hands-on experiences can I expect during a Medical Assistant Program, and how do they prepare me for the workplace?

Medical Assistant Programs typically include a combination of classroom instruction and supervised clinical externships. During the clinical portion, you'll gain hands-on experience by performing tasks such as taking vital signs, assisting with minor procedures, drawing blood, and managing patient records. These real-world experiences closely mirror the daily responsibilities of a medical assistant and help you build confidence and competence before entering the workforce. The externship also provides valuable opportunities to network with healthcare professionals and can sometimes lead directly to job offers.
