Salary range: Total Negotiated Salary (TNS) calculation includes AAMC salary benchmarks for Anesthesiology ranging from $440,000-$575,000. The posted UC salary scales set the base pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. This position includes membership in the health science compensation plan, which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.

Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care (Open Ranks: Assistant, Associate, and Full Professors)


The Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care at the University of California, Irvine seeks qualified candidates for the Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care series (Open Ranks: Assistant, Associate, and Professors).

Applicants must be fellowship trained in Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine, Trauma Anesthesiology. Additionally, preference is given to candidates with a record of scholarly activity appropriate to their career stage, which may include peer-reviewed publications, extramural funding, or equivalent contributions.

The Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care will provide teaching and clinical care at both UCI Medical Center in Orange and UCI Medical Center in Irvine along with affiliated sites in Orange County. Applicants must be board certified in Anesthesiology at the time of application and must hold a license to practice medicine in the State of California by the time of appointment.

Teaching and Professional Responsibilities and Expectations
Clinical teaching is essential to the University's interns, residents, fellows, and postdoctoral scholars. Faculty responsibilities include tutorial instruction, carried on amid the demands of patient care and usually characterized by multiple demands on the teacher to cope with unpredictably varied problems, patient needs, and the necessity of preparing the students to exercise judgement and/or take action. Mentoring is a component of teaching, but it does not replace the provision of intensive tutorial instruction. Mentoring may focus directly on scholarly activity or on efforts to create conditions that promote scholarly activities. The faculty share responsibilities at UCI Medical Center-Orange and on the UC Irvine main campus. Faculty are expected to maintain medical staff privileges at UCI Medical Center. All faculty work regularly with the residents and certified registered nurse anesthetists. Additionally, faculty rotate doing their own cases.

Research, Scholarly, Creative Activity Responsibilities and Expectations
The Department is actively expanding its research enterprise across perioperative care, regional anesthesia, and trauma surgery. Faculty members are expected to maintain a productive, independent research program that advances knowledge in one or more of these areas and contribute meaningfully to the department's scholarly mission.

Experience in clinical outcomes research, such as quality improvement, patient safety, or comparative effectiveness, and familiarity with evidence synthesis methodologies (systematic reviews, meta-analyses) are welcomed. A history of grant funding from federal, foundation, or industry sources is viewed favorably, and successful candidates will be encouraged to pursue external funding opportunities that align with departmental research priorities.

The department places particular emphasis on interdisciplinary and collaborative scholarship. Candidates who have established or contributed to research partnerships spanning anesthesiology and orthopaedic trauma surgery are encouraged to apply. Established productive collaborations with orthopaedic trauma surgeons, regional and acute pain anesthesiologists, outcomes researchers, epidemiologists, and biostatisticians desired.

Faculty will be supported by departmental resources, mentorship, and protected research time commensurate with their academic appointment and research focus. Expectations for research productivity will be defined in consultation with department leadership and aligned with the candidate's track record, interests, and career trajectory.

University and Public Service Responsibilities and Expectations
The Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care is expected to participate in service outside of their teaching and clinical duties to the Department, the School of Medicine, and the University as a whole with particular attention to service that is directly related to their professional expertise and achievements.
