Job description

Fall 2026 Internship: This position is located at our HQ in Durham, NC. Expected program dates are September 14 - December 4. Anticipated working hours will be about 20 per week. Final hours and schedule will be determined between the intern and their manager.

The Mechanical Engineer Intern will work closely with Hardware Development, Manufacturing, Test and our Customers to support our growing product line of Point-of-Sale solutions, in a fast-paced, highly technical and continually evolving business. The ideal candidate will have some background working in the Retail Industry while developing their professional expertise in their area of specialization.
Areas of Expertise & Special Skills:
  • Assure that new equipment will safely comply with performance criteria for use with computer software programs and make any necessary hardware modifications to fix mistakes and other issues.
  • Work with interdisciplinary design teams, such as those for hardware, mechanical, and software
  • Design new hardware using Solid Works
  • Practical experience with a variety of hardware devices.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Self-driven with exceptional analytical and critiquing skills
  • Strong ability to solve problems
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to function a member of a small team.
  • Practical experience with a variety of hardware devices

Major Responsibilities:
  • Work with team to create/modify designs for parts and assemblies
  • Work with team to update part drawings or specifications
  • Work with team on defects that arise from the design
  • Assist in building prototypes or early units
  • Learn about how our products go from an idea to a fully-fledged product
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

The candidate will be working on drawings and designs for a next generation point of sale product.
This role involves hands on designing using Solid Works.
