JOB SUMMARY:

The Medical Assistant provides administrative and clinical support to healthcare providers, ensuring smooth operations within the outpatient care facility. This role involves assisting with patient care, performing basic medical procedures, managing patient records, and coordinating front-office tasks to enhance the overall patient experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Member Success

  • Maintains a working knowledge of PeopleOne Health membership plans and how to access the needed information.
  • Guides the member experience by providing information, education regarding options for care, and available resources
  • Manages, conducts, and tracks outreach initiatives for the member population
  • Provides exceptional customer service while performing job functions, such as, answering inbound calls or online inquiries regarding services, claims, benefits, eligibility, provider searches, and other health-related questions and following up with members to ensure their needs are met.
  • Utilizes technology, data, and other internal information to assist employees in obtaining the best and most cost-efficient health care for disease and condition management.

Front Office

  • Manages office telephone systems, including answering calls and returning messages
  • Schedules patient appointments and maintains communication to confirm future appointments
  • Scans and enters Protected Health Information, including medical information and health insurance information
  • Performs data entry tasks to document patient records within facility databases and maintains patient files
  • Ensures patients are an active member to receive services via the member portal.
  • Ensures patients are pre-approved for care by collecting prior authorization from the insurance provider, for outgoing referrals, when necessary.
  • Coordinates daily office activities, greets patients, and checks patients in and out for appointments.

Back Office

  • Records patient's vital signs, documents physician notes, and changes in medical conditions in the proper systems.
  • Collects blood and fluid samples, and assists with tissue samples, documents in the patient online database, and sends them in for laboratory analysis.
  • Correctly handles biohazard waste.
  • Preps exam rooms for clinical procedures and assists practitioners with patient care.
  • Assists physicians during routine checkups, outpatient procedures, and other physical exams.
  • Monitors and thoroughly documents patient symptoms for physician review during clinical exams.
  • Provides compassionate patient support and care, attention, and assistance during office visits.
  • Prepares and administers medications, including injections, under the direction of supervising physicians.
  • Utilizes daily and monthly checklists to ensure clinical, regulatory, and safety compliance
  • Additional responsibilities as required or assigned.


Other Duties:

  • Monitors clinical and office inventory for ongoing readiness.
  • Maintains center cleanliness and presentation.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS & CLEARANCES

  • Must be a graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Program. Certification preferred. Graduates of a Licensed Practical Nursing program will also be considered.
  • Current Basic Life Support/AED Certification from an AHA-accredited provider.
  • Phlebotomy Certification: Required for all Medical Assistants who perform venipuncture or specimen collection.
  • Must hold an active credential from one of the following nationally recognized organizations:
  • National Healthcare Association (NHA) – Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)
  • American Medical Technologists (AMT) – Registered Phlebotomy Technician (RPT)
  • National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) – National Certified Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT)
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) – Phlebotomy Technician (PBT)
  • New hires without certification must obtain the required credential within 90 days of hire.
  • Child Clearance - Act 33
  • Criminal Clearance - Act 38
  • FBI Clearance - Act 73

EXPERIENCE:

  • 2-5 years prior experience in a medical office preferred
