Job description

Job Summary

The OB/GYN Triage Nurse is responsible for assessing patient needs via phone and in-office communication, prioritizing care based on urgency, and providing clinical guidance to obstetric and gynecologic patients. This role supports physicians and advanced providers by ensuring timely, efficient, and patient-centered care in a private practice setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform telephone triage for OB and GYN patients, assessing symptoms and determining appropriate level of care
  • Provide clinical advice and education based on established protocols and provider guidance
  • Document all patient interactions accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Coordinate same-day appointments, urgent visits, and follow-ups as needed
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, midwives, and other clinical staff regarding patient concerns
  • Manage prescription refills and lab result notifications per provider instructions
  • Educate patients on prenatal care, postpartum care, gynecologic conditions, medications, and procedures
  • Identify emergency situations and direct patients to appropriate care (e.g., ER, labor & delivery)
  • Assist with care coordination, including referrals, imaging, and specialty services
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations

Qualifications

  • Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in GA or Registered Medical Assistant
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience (OB/GYN, women’s health, or labor & delivery preferred)
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with EMR systems (e.g., Athena, eClinicalWorks, Epic) preferred
  • Ability to multitask and manage high call volumes in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Skills

  • OB/GYN or women’s health experience
  • Familiarity with triage protocols (e.g., ACOG guidelines)
  • BLS certification (required); ACLS or NRP (preferred, if applicable)

Work Environment
