Job description

Overview
We're hiring a Medical Assistant to join our outpatient dermatology clinic in Bel Air & Havre De Grace, MD. The Medical Assistant will assist Physicians and other Providers by preparing procedure trays, ensuring adequate supplies for the department and assisting with patient care.
Pay range: $18-22/hr, depending upon experience
Responsibilities
  • Room patients and document intake.
  • Obtain and record vital signs.
  • Organize patient flow.
  • Setup procedure tray, instruments, and equipment according to instructions.
  • Assist providers with dermatology procedures.
  • Prepare Path/lab specimens, route to correct lab directed by patient insurance plan.
  • Respond to patient questions in office and on phone as instructed.
  • Review and address clinical task lists and nurse line messages.
  • Calibrate, clean, sterilize and inventory all equipment & instruments according to schedule. Keep appropriate records of maintenance.
  • Maintain medication supplies, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records.
  • Maintain infection control and make sure supply rooms and cabinets are stocked.
  • Ordering, sorting, restocking and inventory of all supplies.
  • Accurately document patient information and scribe provider notes in the EMR.
  • Assist with administration of local anesthetic.
  • Ensure all phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Must maintain HIPAA compliance
  • Other duties assigned as deemed necessary by management.

Qualifications
  • Able to triage patient concerns.
  • Be familiar with and compliant OSHA/HIPAA, infection control & Blood Borne Pathogen Standards.
  • Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.
  • Experience administering injections.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 codes.
  • Knowledge of office financial policies.
  • Basic computer skills and experience in EMR utilization.
  • Able to operate standard office equipment (i.e. computer, fax, copier, scanner, etc)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluent in English
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Ability to work in an effective, cooperative, and courteous manner with staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team
  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction.
  • Ability to spell, sort and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically.

Licensure/Certifications/Education
Education and Experience:
  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program or completion of a bachelor's degree program in the pre-med or pre-physician assistant track preferred.
  • CPR certified preferred.
  • 1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or other clinical patient care experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in Dermatology is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time
  • Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing.
  • Use of hands and fingers.
  • Talking and listening in person and on the telephone.
  • Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
  • Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
