Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to support healthcare providers in delivering high-quality care to the geriatric population. The Medical Assistant will assist with clinical and administrative duties while ensuring patients receive respectful, patient-centered care. The ideal candidate is organized, empathetic, and experienced in working with elderly patients who may have chronic medical conditions, mobility limitations, or cognitive impairments.
Responsibilities
- Room patients and obtain vital signs, medical histories, medication lists, and chief complaints
- Assist physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff with examinations and procedures
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms, supplies, and medical equipment
- Schedule appointments, coordinate referrals, and assist with follow-up care
- Document patient information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
- Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, injections, specimen collection, and other clinical tasks as permitted by scope of practice
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary team members
- Educate patients and caregivers on treatment plans, medications, and preventative care measures
- Monitor and report changes in patient condition to the clinical team
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, infection control, and safety protocols
- Support patients with mobility needs and provide a welcoming, respectful environment for seniors
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Medical Assistant certification preferred (CMA, RMA, or equivalent)
- Previous experience working with geriatric or adult populations preferred
- Knowledge of chronic conditions commonly affecting older adults such as diabetes, hypertension, dementia, and arthritis
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment
- Proficiency with EMR systems and basic computer skills
- Bilingual skills are a plus
