Big Com

Birmingham, AL • On-site

Full-time

Job description

About the role
The Social Media Manager is the creative and strategic force behind Big Com's day-to-day presence across social platforms. This mid-level role blends content creation, community engagement, and platform strategy to grow audiences and drive measurable results for our clients. The ideal candidate lives on social media, has a sharp eye for what stops the scroll, and can translate a client's brand voice into content that performs.
Acting as both creator and strategist, the Social Media Manager plans and produces native social content - video, graphics, and short-form copy - manages posting calendars and community engagement and uses performance data to continually sharpen what we post and how we post it. While the role occasionally supports longer-form materials like blog posts or newsletters, social content creation is the primary focus.
Reports to: Vice President of Marketing + Communications
Status: Full-Time Employee | Salary + Benefits
What you'll do
Social Content Creation
• Plan, shoot, edit, and publish native content - short-form video, graphics, stories, and captions - tailored to each platform (Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, X, and emerging channels).
• Own the social content calendar for assigned client accounts, ensuring a consistent, on-brand posting cadence.
• Write engaging, platform-appropriate copy that reflects each client's voice and speaks directly to their audience.
• Occasionally contribute to longer-form content - blog posts, newsletters, or web copy - that supports broader campaigns, though this is a secondary focus.
• Stay current on platform trends, formats, sounds, and features, and proactively test new content types.
Community + Engagement
• Monitor and manage social channels daily, responding to comments, messages, and mentions in a timely, on-brand manner.
• Build genuine engagement with followers, influencers, and industry voices to grow community and reach.
• Flag and help manage any customer service issues or reputational concerns that surface on social channels.
Strategy + Performance
• Track key social metrics (engagement, reach, follower growth, conversions) and report performance to clients and internal teams.
• Use analytics and platform insights to refine content strategy and identify what's working.
• Support paid social efforts by identifying strong organic content for boosting or amplification.
• Contribute to the shaping of Big Com's social and stylistic guidelines across clients.
Collaboration + Project Management
• Partner with the creative team on visual assets, campaign concepts, and promotional materials.
• Coordinate with account, design, and analytics teams to align social content with broader campaign objectives.
• Manage multiple client accounts and content deadlines simultaneously without sacrificing quality.
Qualifications
• 1-2 years of professional marketing experience, with a focus on social media specifically.
• A strong portfolio of social content that demonstrates range across platforms, formats, and voice.
• Hands-on experience with content creation and editing tools (e.g., Canva, CapCut, Adobe Creative Suite, native platform editors) and scheduling tools such as HeyOrca, Sprinklr, Later, etc.
• Working knowledge of social platform algorithms, analytics tools, and best practices.
• Excellent writing, proofreading, and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone across brands and platforms.
• Strong organizational and time management skills; comfortable juggling multiple clients and deadlines.
• A collaborative mindset with the ability to also work independently and take ownership of accounts.
• Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field preferred.
• Basic understanding of SEO and paid social principles is a plus.
