Job description

iOS Engineer: Cloud Media and Collaboration

Cupertino, California, United States Software and Services

What if the media management infrastructure you architect today became the backbone of how millions of creatives organize, sync, and collaborate on their work for the next decade? This is a founding-team opportunity on a high-visibility project where your decisions on cloud syncing architecture, on-device storage, and cross-platform media management will shape products used across iOS and macOS at Apple's scale. You won't inherit someone else's design, you'll set the direction.

Description

You'll own end-to-end architecture for cloud syncing and media management features, writing performant, multi-threaded Swift code that ships to a massive install base and holds up under real creative workloads. Your collaborators will be HI designers, QA engineers, and cross-functional teams who expect you to bridge deep technical judgment with clear communication - influencing product direction, not just implementation. Every week, you'll compound your expertise in CloudKit, AVKit, and on-device storage while raising the technical bar for engineers around you through mentorship and architectural leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Architect the end-to-end design of cloud media library systems, setting technical direction that shapes how millions of users store, sync, and access creative work
  • Build production-grade cloud syncing and collaboration infrastructure that ships as core features in Apple creativity apps
  • Own the performance and correctness of multi-threaded media pipelines, from on-device storage to cloud state reconciliation
  • Drive alignment across design, QA, and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver complete, polished features
  • Shape product and project direction by translating complex technical tradeoffs into clear decisions for both engineers and non-technical partners
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3+ years shipping production code on Apple platforms (iOS and/or macOS) with a track record of reliability and scale
  • Advanced Swift proficiency: demonstrated through shipped frameworks, performance-critical systems, or large codebases
  • Deep expertise in cloud syncing architectures and media management technologies, applied to real consumer or professional products
  • Proven technical lead experience: owning scoping, cross-team coordination, and stakeholder communication on multi-quarter features
  • Strong command of concurrency patterns and multi-threaded programming, with measurable outcomes in correctness and throughput
  • Solid computer science foundations: data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design applied at production scale
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent engineering experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience building and shipping CloudKit-backed features, including sync conflict Designed and maintained developer-facing APIs or reusable frameworks adopted across multiple teams or products
  • Built media encoding, decoding, or playback systems using AVFoundation or AVKit in shipping applications
  • Diagnosed and resolved systemic performance bottlenecks across memory, I/O, networking, or database layers with measurable before/after impact
  • Experience with relational data layers (SQLite, Core Data, or PostgreSQL) in the context of media metadata or large-scale asset management
