The San Diego Union-Tribune (SDUT) is seeking a Business Development Executive (sales hunter) to lead revenue growth for our digital and emerging products. The Business Development Executive for the San Diego Union-Tribune is responsible for delivering world-class customer service, partnering with clients to meet their advertising campaign objectives, and working with colleagues to manage the development of new accounts. The San Diego Union-Tribune offers news reporting and third-party advertising and marketing opportunities through its multi-platform products, which include web, mobile, tablet, and print. What you will do:
  • Take charge of the entire sales process, from generating prospects to closing deals, with a focus on expanding new business opportunities and exceeding KPI goals for your clients
  • Develop and deliver compelling marketing presentations and solution-based proposals that cater to customer needs and effectively promote our products and services
  • Create and update marketing presentations using research and case studies to sell against competitive media
  • Strengthen and maintain partnerships with clients to ensure lasting business relationships, continued revenue growth, and defined KPIs and success metrics for campaign performance
  • Work closely with clients post-sale to ensure client retention, renewal, and overall campaign success
  • Utilize multiple lead sources to research, prioritize, and target potential customers, aligning their audience segments with SDUT/Adtaxi products, including print, internet banner advertising, custom/branded content, influencer marketing, behaviorally and contextually targeted networks, video, SEO/SEM, mobile, and social media
  • Stay ahead of the curve by actively monitoring and understanding current trends in the advertising technology industry
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge of online media channels, as well as an understanding of their correlation to offline executions, enabling you to effectively position our products and services against competitors
  • Assess key sales metrics to develop effective strategies for achieving sales success
  • Navigate smoothly across various departments within SDUT to create compelling media solutions for advertisers

What you will bring:
  • 5+ years of advertising/media sales experience, with a track record of driving revenue and closing deals, including at least 3 years of demonstrated success in digital media or online advertising sales
  • Familiarity with digital media advertising options through Adtaxi, including programmatic display, streaming audio and video, CTV, SEO, SEM, targeted email, social, and native/custom content
  • Working knowledge and experience using a CRM and Microsoft Office or Google products to manage day-to-day activities
  • High proficiency in sales techniques such as cold-calling, networking, and lead generation, with a proven ability to close deals
  • Ability to work independently, identifying and prioritizing business opportunities effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate multivariable contracts and successfully close new business deals
  • A positive and entrepreneurial spirit that fosters a collaborative and motivated work environment
  • Excellent presentation, organizational, and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities

Benefits and Compensation:
The hourly range is $31.25 - $38.46 ($65,000 - $80,000) + cell phone stipend, mileage reimbursement, and commission (OTE $100,000 - $130,000). Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to geographic location, education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, the Company offers eligible employees a variety of benefits including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, 401k, as well as paid time off and select paid holidays (all benefits are based on eligibility).
