You'll work closely with one or more physicians, ensuring that every patient encounter is documented quickly and accurately. Most of your time will be spent in fast-paced environments like hospitals or clinics, which will require you to adapt to changing priorities and maintain focus under pressure. What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a med scribe?

A Med Scribe needs strong attention to detail, fast and accurate typing skills, and a basic understanding of medical terminology, often gained through coursework or on-the-job training. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner is frequently required, and some employers may prefer candidates with medical scribe certifications. Outstanding communication skills, discretion, and the ability to multitask in a busy clinical setting set top candidates apart. These abilities enable Med Scribes to accurately document patient encounters in real time, ensuring clear medical records and smooth workflow for healthcare providers.

How much can a medical scribe make?

Medical scribes typically earn between $12 and $20 per hour, with annual salaries ranging from approximately $25,000 to $40,000 depending on experience, location, and employer. Many positions are part-time or entry-level, and some require certification or familiarity with electronic health record systems.
