Design Engineering Unit Manager -- Mechanical Nuclear Fuel Services (BWXT) - Erwin, TN
Summary Description of Job:
Direct and support subordinate professional personnel in the performance of mechanical designs, cost estimates, and schedules associated with major capital projects and engineering programs at the NFS plant. Control primary expenditures for assigned projects. Provide expert leadership to subordinates in support of safe, cost effective, and on-time delivery of products that meet or exceed customer expectations. Develop Architectural Engineering (AE) design packages meeting nuclear industry requirements.
Major Duties and Responsibilities of Job:
  • Provide strategic and tactical direction and strong leadership and ownership to NFS' Mechanical engineering function as it relates to capital project execution and related areas while driving continuous improvement, standardization, best practices, document organization and management, and internal and external benchmarking comparisons.
  • May assume direct design responsibility for specific assigned projects.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and ensure compliance with Mechanical engineering procedures, practices, tools, and methodologies related to capital project development and execution and related areas.
  • Provide technical supervision of NFS and contract Mechanical engineers and designers assigned to projects.
  • Review engineering studies, analyses, designs, cost estimates, and schedules as required.
  • Guides, directs, and consults with and oversees A/E firms and construction contractors as required to fulfill assigned projects.
  • Assist personnel in problem solving, setting priorities, and resolving conflicts. Work with personnel to identify, develop, and implement actions to improve performance and reduce costs.
  • Handle design reviews and approval of change packages; enforcement of codes, standards, and conventions; and special projects as determined by Engineering management. Specifies design standards in accordance with ACE, ASTM, NFPA, and other standards as appropriate.
  • Provide tactical and strategic staffing recommendations and justifications to engineering and business unit leadership in support of project execution.
  • Execute other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Engineering Director.

Educational Requirements of Job :
B. S. -- Engineering or Business/Management
M. S. or M. B. A. preferred
Professional License/Certificate
PMP Certification and/or PE License preferred
Experience Requirements of Job (Beyond educational or equivalent)
Over ten years' experience in Engineering design. At least five years' experience developing Architectural Engineering (AE) design packages to meet nuclear industry requirements. Design experience will include, but is not limited to process piping, material compatibility, industrial mechanical design, and rotating equipment. Other experience should include design reviews, constructability reviews, and project estimating.

Pay: $114,000.00 - $165,000.00
The base salary range for this position in Tennessee at the start of employment is expected to be between $114,000.00 and $165,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,' unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
