Position Overview

EO Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer to lead the architecture development, design, integration, and testing of advanced opto-mechanical hardware for High Energy Laser (HEL) weapon systems and related defense applications. This position will play a critical role in developing precision optical and mechanical assemblies that support beam stability, beam shaping, beam control, target acquisition, tracking, stabilization, and thermal management functions within HEL systems. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in opto-mechanical design, optical alignment, precision mechanical systems, and environmental integration for complex, robust, and ruggedized defense applications and possess the technical leadership skills necessary to mentor junior engineers. The successful candidate will lead technical development efforts from concept through prototype, integration, test, and deployment while collaborating across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture development and design of complex opto-mechanical systems for High Energy Laser weapon systems

  • Design, analyze, integrate, and test precision optical and mechanical assemblies for aerospace and defense applications

  • Develop opto-mechanical solutions supporting spectral beam combiners, beam directors, beam control systems, tracking systems, and optical payloads

  • Perform structural, thermal, vibration, and alignment analysis for precision optical hardware

  • Design and develop mounts, mechanisms, optical benches, stabilization systems, and precision alignment features

  • Support integration of lasers, optics, sensors, gimbals, and electro-optical subsystems

  • Develop system-level packaging solutions optimized for size, weight, power, and thermal constraints

  • Lead tolerance analysis, optical alignment strategies, and environmental robustness assessments

  • Support optical testing, alignment, calibration, and performance characterization activities

  • Develop and maintain detailed engineering drawings, technical data packages, and interface documentation

  • Collaborate closely with optical, electrical, software, controls, and systems engineering teams

  • Support prototype fabrication, system integration, troubleshooting, and qualification testing

  • Participate in design reviews, trade studies, and technical architecture discussions

  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across opto-mechanical development efforts

  • Support proposal development and strategic technology initiatives related to Directed Energy Systems

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or related technical discipline

  • 8+ years of experience in opto-mechanical engineering or precision optical system design

  • Strong experience designing precision opto-mechanical hardware for aerospace, defense, or laser systems

  • Experience supporting architecture development and full lifecycle hardware development

  • Experience with optical alignment, tolerance analysis, and environmental integration

  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, or similar mechanical design software

  • Experience performing structural and thermal analysis for precision hardware systems

  • Familiarity with optical components including mirrors, lenses, beam splitters, sensors, and laser systems

  • Experience integrating optical and mechanical systems into ruggedized environments

  • Strong understanding of vibration, shock, thermal, and environmental effects on optical performance

  • Experience supporting hardware integration, test, troubleshooting, and verification activities

  • Strong technical documentation and communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced multidisciplinary engineering teams

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or related field

  • Active Secret or Top Secret clearance

  • Experience supporting High Energy Laser (HEL) systems or Directed Energy programs

  • Experience with beam directors, tracking systems, adaptive optics, or gimbal systems

  • Familiarity with optical design and analysis tools such as Zemax or Code V

  • Experience with thermal management systems for high-power optical applications

  • Experience supporting airborne or tactical defense systems

  • Familiarity with military environmental standards and qualification testing

  • Experience supporting rapid prototyping and transition to production efforts
