The Waldinger Corporation has an opportunity for a qualified Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Construction in our Des Moines Office.

Job Summary:

Performs engineering related duties for the design and planning phases of multiple and/or large, complex design and construction projects, ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, and standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Preconstruction Duties: Leads peer review of design progress and coordinates with Operations Division on design and cost control related matters. Assists Operations in developing scope of work documents and schematic budgets. Collaborate with team members to identify and incorporate project goals. Creates engineering only estimates and monitors progress throughout design phases.

  • Commissioning: Leads internal commissioning process on projects. Works with Operations to incorporate needs of commissioning early in design/preconstruction phase of work.

  • System Design: Performs and leads system design for mechanical and plumbing/piping systems; selects and sizes equipment, ductwork, and piping; writes specifications; and develops sequences of operation for defined solutions. Performs and reviews load calculations and compliance checks as necessary to ensure technical accuracy and code compliance. Provides technical oversight and guidance to ensure quality, consistency, and constructability of design deliverables.

  • Engineering Documentation: Maintains project files and produces design calculation reports and documents release packages for coordination.

  • System Layout and Modeling: Creates design sketches and engages in/or supervises engineering modeling.

  • Post-Construction Duties: Conducts field walk-throughs and creates punch list on designed work. Participates in client follow-up and closeout activities. Modifies design documents to reflect as-built conditions.

  • Mentoring: Support other engineers and new team members by sharing technical knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned. Identify training needs or opportunities and communicate them to management.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of design engineering experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Construction Engineering or related field

  • Occasional Travel

  • PE License Required

  • Industrial/Manufacturing design experience a plus
