Job Description

The Role:

We are seeking a Facilities Mechanical Engineer to act as the single point of contact and owner for facility needs. This role ensures the proper physical operation of the manufacturing facility, including areas supported by contract services. Key focus areas include engineering support and troubleshooting for building equipment and property maintenance, utility supply, and environmental systems. Work is performed in a GPS plant environment that requires creativity, initiative, and independent judgment.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Provide technical direction and oversight to resident business partners and outside contractors, ensuring safe work practices and compliance with GM standards.
  • Lead the design, construction, installation, launch, and continuous improvement of facilities equipment and tools that support production of high-quality parts.
  • Support the launch of new programs, from equipment design through release to production.
  • Develop bid packages and establish installation contracts; procure and coordinate construction management resources.
  • Manage contractors through installation, debug, and release-to-production phases.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies and municipalities to ensure compliance with applicable codes and permits.
  • Lead and support energy conservation and sustainability initiatives; maintain open communication between the plant and Infrastructure & Corporate Citizenship.
  • Drive strategic and analytical planning to optimize building and facility services, including uptime of facilities-owned equipment.
  • Champion and support plant safety initiatives, including leading WSS or PS as they relate to facility safety systems.
  • Support maintenance and production teams with ongoing facilities engineering project planning and issue resolution.
  • Work cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, EH&S, and other plant functions.
  • Support Safety Contract Management

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in facilities operations, including exposure to mechanical engineering systems such as heating, ventilation, HVAC, chilled water, compressed air, natural gas, and mechanical piping systems, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Ability to work off-shift hours and overtime as needed.

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • 7+ years of experience in facilities operations (mechanical engineering systems such as heating, ventilation, HVAC, chilled water, compressed air, natural gas, and mechanical piping systems, or equivalent experience).
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical or similar field) preferred.
  • Multi-department experience in automotive manufacturing preferred.
  • Experience with mechanical systems as well as light/basic industrial electrical work preferred.
