Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking a driven, hands-on Field Demo Operations Specialist to support and execute our demonstration program for advanced autonomous Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs).

This role is highly operational and field-focused, centered on preparing, deploying, and maintaining USV platforms for testing and live demonstrations with U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, and other government stakeholders.

The Specialist will work directly with the Field Demo Program Manager and engineering teams to ensure demo readiness, support field execution, and maintain operational reliability of all demo assets. This role offers direct exposure to real-world maritime operations, autonomous systems, and customer-facing demonstrations in a fast-paced environment.

This is a full-time, in-person position based in West Palm Beach, Florida, with regular field work and travel as required.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Field Operations & Demo Support

  • Support execution of USV demonstrations and test events, including setup, launch, live operations, and teardown
  • Assist with vessel launch and recovery, and support on-water operations as needed
  • Work alongside the Field Demo Program Manager to ensure demos run smoothly and professionally

System Readiness & Maintenance

  • Assist with inspection, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of vessels and onboard systems
  • Support preparation and configuration of USV platforms prior to demonstrations and testing
  • Help maintain operational readiness of boats, trailers, vehicles, and supporting equipment

Logistics & Asset Management

  • Support demo logistics including equipment staging, transport, and site setup
  • Maintain organization of tools, spare parts, and field equipment
  • Assist with upkeep of vehicles, trailers, and operational gear

Operational Awareness & Support

  • Assist in monitoring vessel systems during operations, including navigation, propulsion, and communications
  • Maintain awareness of ongoing operations and escalate issues to senior team members as needed
  • Follow operational procedures, checklists, and safety protocols during all activities

Testing & Feedback

  • Document demo and test activities, including issues, observations, and performance notes
  • Support execution of test procedures and data collection efforts
  • Provide feedback to engineering teams to support system improvements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent experience in engineering, maritime studies, robotics, business operations, or a related field
  • Strong interest in autonomous systems, maritime operations, or defense technology
  • Hands-on mechanical or technical aptitude with the ability to quickly learn complex systems
  • Comfortable working in field environments including docks, boats, and outdoor test sites
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to take direction, learn quickly, and operate effectively in a team environment
  • Clear communication skills and professional demeanor
  • Willingness to travel and support field demonstrations as needed
  • Must be based in or willing to relocate to West Palm Beach, Florida for an in-person role

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • U.S. Coast Guard OUPV (6-Pack) Captainโ€™s License or higher, or strong intent and ability to obtain within 6โ€“12 months
  • Prior experience operating boats or working in maritime environments
  • Experience with mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems
  • Exposure to robotics, unmanned systems, or field operations
  • Familiarity with basic tools, troubleshooting, and hands-on technical work

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Ability to stand, walk, and operate in indoor and outdoor environments for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs as needed
  • Work may involve docks, vessels, trailers, and active operational environments
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required depending on task and location
  • May require climbing, kneeling, or working in confined or mechanically complex spaces
  • Exposure to varying weather, noise, and environmental conditions during field operations
  • Occasional evenings, weekends, or extended hours required to support demo schedules
  • Regular use of computers and standard office tools for coordination and reporting
