Mechanical Engineer Labview focuses on designing and developing systems using LabVIEW software, often in automation and control projects. Mechanical Test Engineers primarily conduct testing and quality assurance of mechanical components. While both roles require mechanical engineering knowledge, Labview skills are essential for the Mechanical Engineer Labview, whereas testing expertise is key for the Mechanical Test Engineer.

How does a Mechanical Engineer specializing in LabVIEW typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during product development?

Mechanical Engineers with LabVIEW expertise often work closely with electrical engineers, software developers, and testing teams to design and implement automated test systems. They are responsible for creating LabVIEW programs that interface with hardware, collect data, and analyze system performance. Effective communication and collaboration are key, as they must ensure that the automated solutions meet the requirements of all stakeholders, facilitate troubleshooting, and support iterative product improvements throughout the development lifecycle.

What does a Mechanical Engineer with LabVIEW experience do?

A Mechanical Engineer with LabVIEW experience typically designs, develops, and tests mechanical systems using the LabVIEW software for automation, data acquisition, and control tasks. They create virtual instruments (VIs) to monitor and analyze data from sensors and devices, ensuring systems perform as intended. Their role often involves integrating hardware and software, troubleshooting technical issues, and optimizing test processes for efficiency and accuracy. This combination of mechanical engineering and LabVIEW expertise is especially valuable in industries such as manufacturing, automotive, and robotics.

About the Role

DigiLens is seeking a bright, self-driven, and independent-thinking Mechanical Engineer to join the Advanced Manufacturing team at DigiLens. As part of the team, you will be responsible for the mechanical engineering design and development of systems for augmented reality displays. In your role, you will use your opto-mechanical skills to develop DigiLens’ next-generation waveguide displays and holographic manufacturing technology. This is an exciting opportunity to take your career to the cutting edge of the rapidly growing Augmented Reality (AR) market.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Complete mechanical engineering projects for DigiLens R&D and Advanced Manufacturing.
  • Design hardware in CAD using Solidworks to support DigiLens waveguide design, fabrication, and test.
  • Work with cross-functional teams on individual projects to develop solutions and contribute to overall process improvement.
  • Implement R&D and Pilot solutions with consideration for eventual scaling to volume fabrication solutions.
  • Support and build demos, equipment, tools, and processes.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation of designs, assembly procedures, and methods.
  • Generate technical drawings for hardware procurement.
  • Communicate with and drive vendors/partners for component procurement.
  • Frequently work on short development cycles, requiring rapid prototyping and iteration.

Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Three to five years of industry experience in mechanical design using SolidWorks or equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of hardware design, GD&T.
  • Experience in designing static and dynamic mechanical systems.
  • Strong understanding of opto-mechanical principles and components.
  • Familiar with the principles of rapid manufacture and prototyping.
  • Ability to recognize the impact and risks of adding new features to applications.
  • Hands-on experience in engineering and production environments.
  • Ability to apply scientific problem-solving techniques.
  • Aptitude to quickly learn new technologies.
  • Self-driven and motivated, with the ability to work both independently and with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • Strong customer-focused attitude.

Preferred Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Enthusiastic about AR technology.
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Experience developing or supporting optical, projection, and display testing equipment.
  • Experience developing or supporting inkjet printing equipment.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, LabView, or similar environments.
  • Proficient in assembling optical systems, including handling and cleaning optics, interpreting technical documentation, and describing optical system components and assembly procedures.
