Job description

Job Title:ย Mechanical Engineering Internship

Job Code: 25607

Job Location:ย Rochester, NY

Job Description:ย 

  • Provide mechanical engineering support for both new product development activities as well as factory support of existing productsย 

  • Translate product requirements into a mechanical specification and test plan to be used for developmentย 

  • Execute verification testing as defined by the mechanical specification and test planย 

  • Conduct design analysis and testing, both structural and thermal, to prove design will meet customer requirementsย 

  • Responsible for understanding customer needs, generating test procedures and finally executing the testย 

  • Generate and/or process engineering change orders (ECO's) as requiredย 

  • Work directly with mechanical designers on CAD models and part documentationย 

Structural Engineeringย 

  • Structural analysis of aircraft modifications, including design support, and preparation of technical documentation necessary to ensure airworthinessย ย 

  • Determination of stress levels in primary and secondary aircraft structure, systems, and equipment resulting from applied and induced loads, as well as the comparison of these stresses with material properties to predict failure and structural instabilities given due consideration to applicable failure theoriesย 

Sustainment Engineeringย 

  • Involved in the installation coordination for design, modification, maintenance, and repair of aircraft structures, mechanical systems, and mission equipment installationsย 

  • Applies basic engineering design and/or analytical theory with understanding of structural analysis for application to integrated system designย ย 

  • Support transition from engineering design to manufacturing, assembly and aircraft installation of designed productsย 

  • Application of principles supporting aircraft life cycle maintenance (repair, rework and designing replacement parts)ย 

  • Opportunity to work on a wide variety of tasks and aircraft systems on various aircraft platformsย 

Qualifications:ย 

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Mechanics,Materials Science Engineering or related fieldย 

Preferred Skills:ย 

  • CAD or analysis (FEA) tools exposure, and/or experience in mechanical design or analysis of electronic systems, structures and mechanismsย 

  • Familiarity with transducer instrumentation, data collection and or automation and software programming for numerical analysisย 

  • Must be able to apply the principles of Structural Mechanics to predict internal stresses and structural instabilitiesย 

  • Must be able to generate free body diagrams, determine reaction forces, calculate internal loads, and develop shear and moment diagramsย 

  • Working knowledge of one programming languageย 

  • Familiarity with finite element methods and fatigue and damage tolerance principlesย ย 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New York state is $22.00 - $40.50. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
