Job description

Winpak Lane is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join their team, based out of our facility in Rialto, CA.
As a Mechanical Engineer Intern, you'll play an active role in bringing projects to life-developing detailed drawing packages and layouts, and collaborating across disciplines to coordinate equipment and component designs. You'll also have the opportunity to support engineers, designers, and drafters on a variety of projects, gaining hands-on experience and exposure to real-world engineering work.
Education:
  • Pursuing bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Preferably an undergraduate expecting to graduate by 2nd quarter of 2026

Qualifications
  • Basic knowledge in reading and interpreting engineering blueprints.
  • Team player with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Experience using SolidWorks and Autodesk products.
  • Ability to interpret and apply guide lines from various sources including but not limited to the FDA, USDA, 3A, Code of Federal Regulations, CSA, and EU/CE directives and harmonized standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with electrical wiring and systems a plus.
  • Familiarity with PDM software a plus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform engineering duties in planning and designing machine parts and other mechanically functioning equipment.
  • Responsible for drafting, designing, developing diagrams and 3D mdels for complex packaging machines.
  • Participates in the analysis and validation of design concepts.
  • Performs routine engineering tasks using standard engineering practices.
  • Learn to apply applicable design principles related to machinery involved in the packaging or handling of food products.
  • Assist with specifying equipment components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Research, design, evaluate and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems, processes to meet requirements and applying knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Follow Winpak engineering procedures such as naming conventions, baseline dimensioning, tolerancing and creation of assemblies and parts.
  • Create bills of materials and monitor assigned projects to insure accuracy and on time delivery.
  • Expected to learn correct data entry methods for Winpak Systems.
  • Participate with investigating equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation.
  • Assist drafters ,designers and engineers as needed.
  • Clear communication is key part in the success of this position.
  • Must be familiar with and able to apply applicable design principles to sanitation.
  • Become familiar with machinery safety and guarding per OSHA, CE and CSA

  • This is a part time position, based out of our facility in Rialto, California
  • Compensation Range: $22.00-$25.00/hour. The compensation range provided is a general guideline only. Pay will be determined based on the candidate's experience and expertise and is subject to vary.
