Job description

For more than a decade, Design West Technologies Inc. has served as a trusted partner to the Department of Defense (DoD), delivering mission-critical design engineering and rugged manufacturing solutions that protect our nation's warfighters. As we enter our next chapter, we are blending our deep-rooted defense heritage with a start-up culture designed to take advantage of the current DoD landscape. Operating out of our advanced facilities in Tustin, CA, we have an immediate need for a part-time Mechanical Engineering Intern for late Summer/early Fall 2026 (approximately 20-24 hours). The successful candidate will be working with the Director of Program Engineering and Development on engineering, manufacturing, and business projects and tasks as assigned.

A DAY IN THE LIFE AS AN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING INTERN AT DWT

You'll support the design, development, testing, and documentation of electro-mechanical products from concept through production. Your day may include creating CAD models and engineering documentation, building and testing prototypes, troubleshooting equipment, and collaborating with Quality Assurance on inspections and continuous improvement activities. You'll also help prepare bills of materials, production documentation, project schedules, and technical reports while working with suppliers and supporting proposal efforts. Throughout the internship, you'll gain hands-on experience with engineering processes, manufacturing, and quality systems in a collaborative, safety-focused environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Pursuing or recent graduate B.S. degree in mechanical, electrical, aerospace or Industrial Engineering
  • Strong MS Office skills, particularly Word and Excel
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings preferred
  • Well organized and ability to compile accurate data
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
