Job description

Responsibilities
**This position is for upcoming work and is contingent upon task award/funding.
** This will be an onsite position in Albuquerque, NM.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to support critical government programs focused on 3D facility characterization and conventional weapons effects analysis. In this role, you will apply advanced engineering principles to structural and mechanical systems analysis of hardened and underground facilities, contributing directly to the development and refinement of conventional weapons effects models. This position requires deep technical expertise across structural mechanics, blast dynamics, and weapons-target interaction, as well as the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment supporting national security objectives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct structural analysis and equipment fragility assessments for hardened facilities, including evaluation of blast door response under conventional weapons loading scenarios
  • Perform mechanical systems analysis of WMD-associated facilities, characterizing critical infrastructure components and their vulnerabilities
  • Design and execute test programs and data analysis efforts to evaluate structural and mechanical response under weapons effects conditions
  • Develop and apply concrete and rock damage models to predict and characterize facility response to conventional weapons impacts
  • Contribute to 3D facility characterization efforts, integrating mechanical engineering assessments into comprehensive facility vulnerability models
  • Support the development and validation of new conventional weapons effects models, incorporating test and evaluation (T&E) results to iteratively improve model accuracy and fidelity
  • Collaborate with analysts, scientists, and government stakeholders to translate technical findings into actionable intelligence and targeting assessments

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline
  • 10+ years of professional experience in structural analysis, blast mechanics, or weapons effects engineering
  • Demonstrated experience with concrete and/or rock damage modeling under dynamic or impulsive loading conditions
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and finite element modeling tools (e.g., ABAQUS, LS-DYNA, AUTODYN, or equivalent)
  • Experience in test design, execution, and data reduction/analysis for structural or mechanical systems
  • Familiarity with conventional weapons effects, blast loading, and hardened/deeply buried facility (HDB) analysis
  • with an Active Top Secret / SCI security clearance (required at time of application)

Desired Qualifications
  • Direct experience supporting DoW or Intelligence Community programs related to facility characterization, defeat planning, or weapons effectiveness
  • Working knowledge of WMD facility mechanical systems, including ventilation, utilities, and structural hardening techniques
  • Experience integrating T&E results into physics-based or empirical models for government weapons programs
  • Familiarity with underground and hardened facility vulnerability assessments within a DoW or national laboratory environment
  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or a related field
