Mechanical Engineer
Entegris is seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineer to join a dynamic team responsible for polymer fluid handling products such as valves, tubing, and fittings in Chaska, MN as part of the Fluid Handling Unit within Entegris' Advanced Purity Solutions Division. This segment develops technologies that support design and development of the most advanced semiconductor applications in the world.
This Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the development and technical advancement of fluid handling components such as valves fittings, and tubing. The Mechanical Engineer should be familiar with stage-gate development and New Product Introduction at low and high volume. Expected to work with Domestic and International company resources and/or vendors to move new concepts from prototype to production.
Responsibilities:
  • Technical Leadership & Decision Making

  • Direct technical discussions and analyze evidence to make data-driven decisions ensuring functionality and reliability.

  • Exhibit sound judgment based on schedule and cost impact.

  • Product Development & Design

  • Conceptualize, design, and develop new, derivative, and existing product offerings to advance technology and meet performance requirements.

  • Prepare design and procurement specifications for mechanical materials and assemblies through approved supply channels.

  • Evaluate designs for manufacturability and implement risk mitigation strategies.

  • Testing & Qualification

  • Ensure that lab equipment, fixtures, and tooling are built and qualified, support design verification and qualification tests on complex materials, sub-assemblies, and products.

  • Characterize and test products to ensure compliance with specifications; oversee prototype builds and release to manufacturing.

  • Write technical reports and compile data to support product qualification and regulatory compliance.

  • Project Management

  • Lead or co-lead technology development and new product introduction projects from concept through manufacturing release.

  • Manage phase-gate processes, design reviews, prototyping, documentation, regulatory certification, DFMEA, resource tracking, scheduling, risk assessment, and cost estimation.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, product management, and customers to ensure alignment and project success.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including quality notifications, corrective actions, supplier capability, and process optimization.

  • Supplier & Vendor Coordination

  • Manage relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of high-quality components and services.

  • Documentation & Compliance

  • Create and maintain drawings, SOPs, test procedures, routings, and BOMs.

  • Support customer requests for documentation and test data.

  • Quality & Troubleshooting

  • Perform root cause analysis on quality issues for new and existing products; troubleshoot design, functional, and assembly problems.

Qualifications and Preferred Skills:
  • Leadership: Excellent written & verbal communication skills along with efficient project management skills. Ability to work effectively & respectfully in a team-based & multi-national global engineering environment. Willingness and ability to be self-motivated and work well in a fast-paced design environment.

  • Educational Background: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering, and 2+ years of directly related experience is required. Knowledge in semiconductor hardware, metrology and other equipment desired.

  • Experience: Ability to design, fabricate, and qualify products and equipment used in the manufacture and testing of products, hands-on experience using various machine shop tools, processes and equipment assumed. Knowledge of materials and material properties is extremely useful in the role. The Mechanical Engineer will integrate all facets of design including mechanical design and testing. Additional expectations: familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), thermal and fluid dynamics, kinematics and dynamics, dimensioning and tolerancing, and failure modes associated with mechanical design and material properties.

  • Technical Proficiency: Knowledge or experience in engineering design practices, solid modeling (proficient in design tools such as SolidWorks, Inventor, ProE), and creating manufacturing drawings for use in producing prototype, low volume, and high-volume components with various machining and molding processes. Familiarity with various material properties and processes for plating, polishing, anodizing, finishing, and inspecting. Experience with simulation tools such as ANSYS, MATLAB, Solidworks, MiniTab, Autodesk desired. Experience with SAP PLM desired.

  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design and troubleshoot complex systems

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly

  • Team Player: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with diverse stakeholders

  • Accountability: Detail oriented and ability to prioritize workload and self-manage projects, handle multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines, self-motivated and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
