Job description

TITLE: Mechanic

DEPARTMENT: Operations

EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-Exempt

SUPERVISED BY: Director of Fleet Services

SUMMARY: The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for completing repairs, adjustments and preventative maintenance service and checks on all company vehicles in accordance with prescribe PM policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for completing repairs, adjustments and preventative maintenance service and checks on company vehicles in accordance with prescribed PM policies and procedures
  • Responsible for accurate record keeping of all services and repairs completed.
  • Responsible for alerting the Maintenance Supervisor for any suspected or confirmed abuse of company vehicles/equipment.
  • Responsible for determining if reported failures are the result of improper operation by crew members, material defects, normal wear, or other causes.
  • Perform diagnosis and repair on brake systems.
  • Perform diagnosis and repair of electrical systems.
  • Perform diagnosis and repair of power train.
  • Perform diagnosis and repair of air conditioning/heating systems.
  • Respond to road calls as needed.
  • Remain abreast of changes and trends in the industry.
  • Accept other associated responsibilities and projects as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must maintain a valid Georgia Drivers License
  • Three (3) years of confirmed experience as a mechanic preferred successful completion of an industry recognized trade school or college required.
  • Experience in electrical, air conditioning, heating, braking, and power train systems to include diagnosis and repair.
  • Certification for procurement/purchasing, of refrigerant type gases and oils for air-conditioning systems preferred.
  • Must furnish own tools.
  • Flexible work Schedule.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of methods, material, tools, and techniques used in the repair and maintenance of a variety of automotive and mechanical equipment: operating principles of gasoline and diesel engines and of mechanical repair of vehicles ranging from passenger cars to in the one (1) ton category.
  • Ability to locate, correct, and adjust defects in complex automotive and mechanical equipment; performing skilled work in repairing, overhauling, and maintaining gas and diesel powered automotive equipment; intercepting and working from charts, technical manuals, and diagrams; using and caring for tools and equipment used in automotive and mechanical repair work; maintaining detailed and routine records.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both a written and oral manner.
  • Ability to maintain a good driving record.
  • Ability to strictly adhere to established safety policies and guidelines.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers, and reach with hands and arms; must be able to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk for long periods. The employee is required to sit for extended periods; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may often lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Open shop environment, often-loud noise levels, frequent interruptions, work pressure and irregularities in work schedule are expected. Employee is continuously faced with a number of projects considered to be high priority. Employee is subject to continually changing deadlines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be required to travel and attend both regular and unscheduled meetings, some of which take place outside of regular working hours.
