Position Overview

Are you an experienced mechanical designer ready to bridge the gap between technical execution and professional leadership? We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer-in-Training III to serve as a cornerstone of our mechanical design team. In this high-impact role, you will move beyond basic drafting to architect complex HVAC and thermal systems for the environments that shape the future: our schools and universities. You will take ownership of medium to large-scale educational projects, ensuring that every design choice supports a safe, efficient, and innovative learning atmosphere.

Joining our team means immersing yourself in a culture that treats engineering as a public service. We don't just build systems; we build the infrastructure for the next generation of Texas students. This position is specifically designed for high-potential EITs who are on the cusp of licensure and looking for a firm that provides the technical complexity, structured mentorship, and professional runway necessary to transition into a Professional Engineer (PE) and team leader.

Core Responsibilities

  • System Architecture & Design: Architect HVAC and mechanical systems by applying advanced engineering principles and rigorous thermal calculations to ensure peak performance in educational environments.

  • Technical Production Leadership: Steer the development of high-fidelity construction documents, leveraging expert-level Revit and AutoCAD workflows to produce precise mechanical plans and details.

  • Specifications & Standards: Author and refine comprehensive mechanical specifications, ensuring every project aligns with the firm’s technical benchmarks and client-specific requirements.

  • Project Stewardship: Manage the lifecycle of medium to large-scale projects—including middle and high school facilities—from initial concept through final construction administration.

  • Construction Intelligence: Navigate the construction phase with precision by reviewing RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings, and conducting site visits to ensure design intent is realized in the field.

  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Integrate complex mechanical systems with electrical and plumbing disciplines, ensuring a seamless, multidisciplinary design approach for every facility.

  • Mentorship & Knowledge Transfer: Elevate the entire team by mentoring EIT I & II staff and interns, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous professional growth.

  • Client Engagement: Act as a technical ambassador for the firm, participating in client meetings and translating complex engineering solutions into clear, actionable project goals.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from an ABET-accredited program.

  • Licensure: Registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) in the State of Texas; must have attempted the Texas PE Exam at least twice (demonstrating progress toward licensure).

  • Experience: 4+ years of professional experience within an MEP consulting engineering environment.

  • Software Proficiency: Advanced command of Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Technical Expertise: Proven track record designing HVAC systems, central plants, temperature controls, and indoor air quality (IAQ) systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Sector Specialty: Direct experience designing MEP systems specifically for K–12 or Higher Education campuses.

  • Code Proficiency: Deep familiarity with Texas building codes and energy conservation standards.

  • Leadership Ambition: A clear desire to move into a Project Manager or Senior Engineer role upon attainment of PE license.
