Description:

Position Summary: Diagnoses and repairs a variety of diesel-powered commercial light and heavy equipment using manuals, attained specialized knowledge and other sources.

Small Engine Technician:

Perform maintenance and service work, as well as assess and diagnoses small engines. Understands warranty processes and able to document repair actions

  • Basic hand and power tools
  • 2 stroke and 4 stroke engine experience
  • Able to read and understand service manuals and schematics
  • Communicate with service advisors on repair process

Heavy Equipment and Tractor Technician:

Perform maintenance and service work, as well as assess and diagnoses diesel engines and hydraulic systems. Understands emission components as well as CAN bus and hydraulic principles. Understands warranty processes and able to document repair actions.

Essential Functions:

  • Diagnoses and repairs units requiring routine maintenance and special repair according to the work order or other approved repairs .
  • Disassembles and assembles units under repair using a variety of hand and power tools according to accepted procedures.
  • Communicates with service writer regarding status of units under repair according to the work order or other approved repairs.
  • Performs Safety and Operational checks on repaired units. Repairs items out of tolerance.

Other Functions Applicable to All Position Levels Described Above:

  • May pull own stock as required using forklift or pallet jacks.
  • Communicates with service writers regarding status of units being assembled and/or repaired.
  • Requisitions parts required for repairs and communicates to service writer as needed.
  • Completes all required paperwork and time recording.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education: High School or equivalent. Voc. Ed. Program or training preferred.

Experience: 3-5 years auto/truck, heavy equipment mechanical experience.

Specific Skills: Mechanical ability, diagnostics skills, Diesel Mechanics

Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.: Certification in Auto/ Diesel mechanics. ASE or other certification.

Working Conditions: Interior service bay work involving lifting and moving objects with or without assistance. Work involves use of solvents, lubrications and engine fuel. Some noises from engines and tools. Some exterior stock retrieval and testing of units is required.
