Job description

Responsible for daily operations of meat processing. Maintain daily functional status of the meat processing plant including daily equipment functionality and preparedness. Perform equipment and facility maintenance functions, as needed.

  • High School Diploma or GED and one (1) to three (3) years of experience in the operations and maintenance of meat harvest, fabrication and processing, associate equipment, and the collection of research data, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Basic written, communication, presentation and computer skills.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

  • Unloads and handles livestock including slaughtering and carcass dressing.
  • Breaks down carcass for further processing of value-added meat products.
  • Cuts, trims, prepares, slices and grinds meat products for wholesale and retail cut generation.
  • Prepares product for packaging, applies labels, measures and records weights, moves finished products to coolers or freezers and maintains inventory of products.
  • Participates in identification process as part of the inventory tracking and traceability procedures.
  • Operates and maintains all meat processing equipment ensuring sanitation standard operating procedures are followed.
  • Performs daily temperature audits and monthly temperature verifications.
  • Performs daily, weekly, and monthly evaluations of equipment to ensure proper function and readiness for use.
  • Assists with scheduling and obtaining necessary product(s), materials, supplies, and/or equipment needed for daily operations.
  • Ensures compliance with USDA-FSIS regulations, directives, guidelines and policies regarding sanitation, operations, and regulation of meat processing areas.
  • Complies with all USDA regulations regarding ante-mortem, post-mortem, and product inspections.
  • Assists with product handling as it relates to mechanical problems and special situations related to temperature failures and product integrity.
  • No supervisory/management authority.
  • Work will be performed in a variety of settings, including climate-controlled office settings and/or outdoors in all types of weather.ย 
  • Work will include lifting and adjusting heavy objects up to 100 lbs and will encounter sharp, hot and/or cold supplies and equipment.ย 
  • Employee will be required to wear proper personal protective equipment and maintain safety procedures at all times.ย 
  • Employee may be called into work outside normal work hours or work long hours for emergency maintenance and repair situations.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
