Meat Associate information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a meat associate?

To thrive as a Meat Associate, you need knowledge of meat products, safe food handling practices, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with meat cutting tools, scales, slicers, and compliance with food safety certifications like ServSafe is essential. Attention to detail, customer service, and teamwork are standout soft skills in this role. These skills are important to ensure food safety, maintain product quality, and provide a positive shopping experience for customers.

What are some typical challenges a meat associate faces during busy periods, and how can they be managed?

During peak shopping hours or holiday seasons, Meat Associates often face challenges such as high customer demand, maintaining product freshness, and ensuring that displays are well-stocked and organized. Effective time management, teamwork, and clear communication with supervisors and fellow associates are key to handling these busy times. Staying attentive to food safety protocols and multitasking efficiently can help ensure both customer satisfaction and a safe work environment.

  5. Execute merchandising plans to maintain attractive, customer-focused displays.

Counter Duties:

  3. Maintain records, budgets, and inventory.
  4. Perform other duties as assigned to support department operations.
Requirements:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. 7+ years of experience as a butcher, including at least 3 years in a management role.
  3. Proven experience leading a team in a high-volume meat department or meat store.
  4. Strong communication skills and ability to train, mentor, and manage staff.
Benefits:
  1. MTA Transit credit
  2. medical, dental, vision, 401(K),
  3. 50% off lunch and 25% off in-store shopping.
  4. Incentive bonus up to 15%.
Working Conditions:
  1. Continuous movement on hard surfaces; may require bending, climbing, reaching, stooping, and lifting.
  2. Lifting up to 30 pounds; heavier or awkward items may require assistance.
  3. Indoor environment with machinery and equipment noise; shouting may occasionally be necessary.
