McLane Global is currently seeking a Director of Transportation Management to lead and oversee the Managed Transportation division within McLane Global, a Third-Party Logistics (3PL) company. This role is responsible for strategic planning, developing and maintaining carrier relationships, optimizing transportation networks, managing customer relationships, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. The Director is a part of the Company leadership team and will play a critical role in driving operational excellence and supporting the overall business growth strategy.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Execution:

● Develop and implement transportation management strategies that support business objectives and growth targets.

● Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost savings, and operational efficiencies.

● Lead transportation network design and optimization projects to enhance service levels and reduce costs.

Operational Leadership:

● Oversee daily operations of the transportation department, including dispatch, route planning, load management, and freight optimization.

● Manage the end-to-end transportation process, ensuring on-time delivery, service quality, and compliance with contractual agreements.

● Lead a team of transportation professionals and foster a culture of accountability, excellence, and continuous improvement.

Customer Management:

● Develop and maintain strong relationships with key Customer contacts.

● Manage customers’ business using standard operating procedures.

● Conduct quarterly business reviews based on mutually agreed service standards and KPIs.

● Foster a culture of Continuous Improvement, Accountability, and Service Excellence.

Carrier and Vendor Management:

● Develop and maintain strong relationships with carriers, and negotiate contracts, rates, and service terms to secure the best value for the Company and our customers.

● Monitor carrier performance through KPIs and metrics, taking corrective action when necessary to ensure high standards of service and compliance.

Financial Management:

● Develop and manage department budget to ensure financial performance aligns with company goals.

● Monitor and report on transportation costs, identifying trends and implementing strategies to control expenses.

● Manage Customer relationships, contracts and rates in a manner that protects the Company’s profitability while delivering high value to the Customer.

Compliance and Safety:

● Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including DOT, FMCSA, and HOS.

● Oversee safety initiatives, implement risk management strategies, and promote a culture of safety across the transportation team.

Technology and Systems Management:

● Implement and leverage the Company’s Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and other technological platforms to drive efficiency and data-driven decision-making.

● Collaborate with IT and operations teams to enhance system capabilities and streamline transportation processes.

Industry Trends:

● Remain current on industry trends and advise the Company and our Customers on ways to continuously improve the business.

● Leverage relationships to deliver best-in-class service at competitive rates.

Requirements

● Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus.

● 8+ years of progressive experience in transportation management, preferably within a 3PL or logistics company.

● Proven leadership experience with a track record of developing high-performing teams.

● Strong understanding of transportation regulations and compliance requirements.

● Experience with TMS software and technology platforms used in transportation management.

● Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

● Analytical mindset with the ability to leverage data for decision-making and problem-solving.
