Job description

The University of Virginia Darden School of Business, one of the world's leading business schools, seeks an Assistant/Associate Director of Admissions to join its Admissions team.
With strong momentum in the residential MBA, Part-Time MBA and executive MBA formats, this position joins Darden at an exciting time. Darden delivers top-ranked graduate degree programs-Full-Time MBA, Part-Time MBA, Executive MBA, MSBA, and Ph.D.-and Executive Education & Lifelong Learning from the Darden School Foundation. The School's faculty is consistently ranked No. 1 in the world for teaching excellence and is renowned for influential scholarship supported by research centers and Darden Business Publishing, one of the largest case publishers globally. With a growing presence at UVA Darden DC Metro in Rosslyn, Darden is expanding its reach at the intersection of business, policy, and global enterprise.
This position will be part of Darden's Admissions committee, responsible for activities necessary to market to, identify, evaluate, and select a diverse class of high-quality applicants and students across Darden's MBA programs.
Responsibilities:
Evaluating applications
Reading and evaluating applications for admission into the Darden School of Business.
Recruiting/Travel
Represent Darden at various alumni and prospective student events, MBA forums/fairs, and other events, including yield events both domestically and internationally.
Interviewing
Interview prospective students on Grounds and by Zoom.
Alumni Relations
Serve as liaison to alumni base and coordinate their involvement with multiple recruitment and yield efforts.
Professional Experience and Education:
  • To qualify for Assistant Director - Bachelor's degree and at least three years of experience in student services functions or a total of eight years of experience in lieu of a degree.
  • To qualify for Associate Director - Bachelor's degree and at least five years of experience in student services functions or a total of ten years of experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 2 years' admissions experience at a high-quality higher education institution, or an equivalent relevant recruiting, student services or HR/talent experience in a top corporation or preeminent boarding school preferred.
  • MBA/Master's degree preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, as well as the ability to initiate programmatic and individual activities while functioning in a team setting.
  • Displays a service-oriented approach.
  • Strong technical skills, with experience in a CRM-based function. Slate experience preferred.
  • Awareness of the needs and concerns of a selective MBA program are required.
  • High level of emotional intelligence, empathy, integrity, responsiveness, and collaborative ability.
  • Ability to engender trust among internal stakeholders and stakeholders across Grounds, and to work effectively with them.
  • Ability to take initiatives and execute high quality actions using judgment and discretion.
  • Global awareness and understanding.
  • A belief in the mission of Darden and UVA, and a student-centered mindset.
  • Displays poise and tact to relate with people and sensitive issues.
  • Attention to detail, ability to follow through on commitments.
  • High energy and an ability to make compelling presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to interview potential applicants.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary. Position requires some evening and weekend work, as well as domestic and international travel.

About the Position
