Accountant / Staff Accountant / Senior Accountant / Accounting Specialist
THIS IS A HYBRID POSITION REQUIRING ON-SITE PRESENCE THREE DAYS PER WEEK IN LOUISVILLE, KY; ALLENTOWN, PA; OR PROVIDENCE, RI.
Overview
This position is responsible for reporting and financial activities which require knowledge of technical accounting procedures, rules, and regulations, particularly as they relate to electric and gas utilities. Responsibilities and qualifications vary by level as outlined below.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities
  • Prepares various monthly journal entries and monthly account reconciliations in addition to various accounting analyses as requested.
  • Maintains proper segregation of duties and ensures functioning of internal controls over financial reporting in the performance of job duties, including participating in control walkthroughs and SOX testing.
  • Prepares supporting schedules included in the monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports and filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Kentucky Public Service Commission (KPSC), Virginia State Corporation Commission (VSCC), Energy Information Administration (EIA) and others, including FERC Forms 1, 3 and 60.
  • Prepare supporting schedules for the KPSC regulatory filings, including Fuel Adjustment Clause (FAC), Environmental Cost Recovery (ECR), and Gas Line Tracker (GLT) mechanisms.
  • Ensures all accounting and reporting is in compliance with FERC and regulatory requirements and assists with accurate and timely adoption of new regulations.
  • Prepares Form 1 and 3 workpapers. Analyzes schedules for accuracy and propriety, which requires diligence and ingenuity.
  • Prepares financial calculations, reports, and analyses for senior management, other departments, internal and external auditors, and governmental agencies (PSC, PUC, FERC, etc.).
  • Possesses or develops an understanding of reporting systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Possesses or develops a working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and accounting policies and procedures unique to the utility industry.
  • Work is performed under close supervision usually following a predetermined schedule of results desired.
  • Ensure proper process and systems documentation is maintained.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Accountant
Basic Qualifications
1.Bachelor's degree in business discipline with at least 3 accounting courses.
2.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; use of Excel/Word is required.
Preferred Qualifications
1.Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
2.CPA or CMA exam eligible.
3.Excellent written and oral communication skills.
4.0-2 years related work experience, including co-operative/internship experience.
Staff Accountant
Basic Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's Degree in business discipline with at least 3 accounting courses OR Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with at least 1 year of accounting-related experience.
  2. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; use of excel/word is required.
  3. Requires excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with a minimum of 2 to 4 years of accounting-related experience in public accounting, SEC reporting, and a working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  2. CPA or CMA certification or MBA.

Senior Accountant
Basic Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's Degree in business discipline with at least 3 accounting courses and 5 years accounting experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with 3-5 years of accounting-related experience.
  2. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; use of excel/word is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, MBA, or other advanced degree in business discipline.
  2. CPA or CMA certification.
  3. Experience in utility accounting, public accounting and SEC reporting, and a working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  4. Demonstrated ability to research technical accounting guidance.
  5. Requires excellent written and oral communication skills.
  6. Requires excellent interpersonal skills.

Accounting Specialist
Basic Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's Degree in business discipline with at least three accounting courses and 7 or more years accounting-related experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with a minimum of 4 years accounting-related experience and CPA or CMA certification. (Required to actively pursue certification within two years of the job effective date.)

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, MBA, or other advanced degree in business discipline.
  2. CPA or CMA certification.
  3. Experience in public utility accounting, SEC reporting and a working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
