Wharton's Financial and Administration department is looking for a Sr. Financial Analyst to join their team. The Sr. Financial Analyst reports directly to the Senior Associate Director, Wharton Centers Finance. The Sr. Financial Analyst will serve as an integral member of the Wharton Centers Finance team at Wharton Finance & Administration, accurately preparing and maintaining financial records and reporting for 20+ units, ensuring transactions are reflective of business activities and financial planning. The Sr. Financial Analyst oversees the creation of reports that respond to the needs of center directors and accommodate organizational needs.
This position will track and review all financial activities, including revenues, current expenses, facility charges, inter-departmental awards, and funding transfers. This position will create and maintain a record system to ensure that non-compensation financial agreements are properly executed. This position will act as the project lead for Wharton Centers Finance, communicating deadlines and ensuring compliance. This position will support the annual budget development process in collaboration with the Finance Manager and Senior Associate Director. Additionally, this position contributes to the development of processes and procedures that ensure alignment with new department or school initiatives. This role is responsible for P&L reporting.
The Sr. Financial Analyst will also act as the Business Administrator (BA) for assigned Research Centers.
Job Description
Job Responsibilities
  • Ensure financial records are accurate and financial agreements are properly executed as it reflects in the reporting system. Take corrective actions as necessary. Flag issues with the assigned business administrator and/or the center leads. Investigate matters by researching into various Penn systems.
  • Act as the business administrator for assigned research centers and collaborate with the financial operations team. Understand the unit activity and work with the internal team on the budget and forecast process.
  • Act as lead & subject matter expert for school & university projects & deliverables, including annual tax & year end reporting as well as ad-hoc requests.
  • Deliver accurate financial reporting to internal team and business units.
  • Create and maintain a database of internal agreements. Act as the subject matter expert for specific area of expertise (revenues, transfers, and current expense). Record transactions in the Penn Accounting system (BEN Financials).

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree with 5-7 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Previous experience managing financial records. Attention to detail/accuracy. Strong business acumen and financial management skills. Knowledge of Penn's financial systems a plus.
  • Previous finance/accounting, reporting, and analysis experience required.
  • Advance technical skills required (spreadsheet proficiency).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, including professional email writing skills and the ability to enforce policies and guidelines diplomatically but assertively, including with those at higher levels.
