Job description

Have you ever wondered why higher education feels stuck? Or thought, what if we could rebuild it from the ground up? Imagine a university where leveraging the most sophisticated technological advances is embraced to ensure the best possible learning experiences for asynchronous online students, providing course content that is personalized, flexibly-paced, and deeply connected to real-world needs. A place where we learn across disciplinary boundaries, deliberately practice work through skills that matter, and turn critical ideas into real action.

If you’ve ever dreamed of tearing up the rulebook, of reimagining education in disruptive ways, you might belong here. San Francisco Bay University is embarking on a bold experiment in higher education, and we’re looking for the people who will make it real.

San Francisco Bay University (SFBU), an innovative, nonprofit, WASC-accredited university situated in the heart of Silicon Valley in Fremont, California, seeks a forward-thinking and experienced Online Adjunct Professor of Marketing to deliver our MKT 541 course, working hand-in-hand with our proprietary AI technology to oversee the learning experiences of SFBU’s online MBA Pro+ students. This role is part-time, non-exempt, and remote (CA preferred). This first-of-its-kind MBA is nearing completion and getting ready for launch in Fall 2026. We are excited to recruit and develop our founding cadre of online adjunct Business Faculty to facilitate our innovative courses. For more information about the MBA Pro+, please visit: https://proplus.sfbu.edu

Students in the MBA Pro+ are guided through personalized and adaptive learning experiences in each course as they progress through real-time interactive discussions with sophisticated and engaging faculty avatars in tandem with you, our MBA Pro+ faculty. The avatars have socratic discussions about key course concepts and case studies with each student and provide feedback and guidance for further study. The virtual professors are available 24 hours, 7 days a week; have an enormous bank of knowledge and experience from which they draw to illustrate concepts, extending the reach and availability of human faculty. The virtual professors are responsive to students’ individual learning needs, preferences, and potential neurodivergence thereby providing truly personalized education with evidenced-based effective pedagogy.

After each interaction, faculty are provided with assessment recommendations with respect to learning objective mastery for each student to review, validate, and/or provide further feedback. As students complete the course, summative assessment recommendations are provided to the faculty for final grading.

Responsibilities:

  • Bring humanity, empathy, care, and compassion to the MBA Pro+ learning experiences by building robust professional relationships and guiding and encouraging them in their learning journey as they progress through the course
  • Build a sense of community amongst students by creating purposefully connective opportunities for both synchronous and asynchronous interactions through guest lectures, online meetups, and other such activities
  • Provide responsive and timely follow-up for students who are stuck, disengaged, or have questions that are not being addressed by the course avatar to the student’s satisfaction
  • Offer career advice and other professional coaching to help the student develop, clarify, and obtain short- and long-term career objectives
  • Conduct optional 60-minute synchronous seminars/open office hours twice each week
  • Review and validate student assessment data on a daily basis, troubleshooting any issues in a timely fashion
  • Continuous training and tuning of the course avatar and course materials to ensure the best possible course experience
  • Verify and validate students’ summative course assessments and enter grades for each student as they complete course requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or D.B.A. in Business, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Successful prior experience with online asynchronous course delivery through a Learning Management System.
  • Generalized subject matter expertise in Marketing and the ability to oversee online courses within the MBA.
  • Demonstrated Experience incorporating best practices in online teaching and learning.
  • Successful prior experience leveraging the thoughtful incorporation of AI as a high-impact pedagogical tool.
  • A passion for mentoring and guiding students in their academic and professional growth.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and community partners.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education and practice.

Compensation: $7,300.80 for each 8-week course (hourly rate is $152.10)

Application Materials:

Interested candidates must submit the following application materials:

  • A cover letter detailing your qualifications, teaching philosophy, and alignment with our mission and core values (https://www.sfbu.edu/strategic-plan).
  • Curriculum vitae.
  • Contact information for three professional references.
  • Applications will be reviewed immediately and continue until the position is filled.
