Job description

Lead CNC Machinist – 2nd Shift (Mazak & Fanuc)

$32.00 – $36.00/hr + $3.00/hr Shift Premium • Sugar Bush, WI Area • 100% Onsite • 2nd Shift

  • SCHEDULE: Stable 4-day work week (Monday – Thursday, 3:00 PM – 1:00 AM) | 100% voluntary overtime
  • MACHINERY: Setting up and running modern VMCs, HMCs, and Mazak vertical/horizontal turning centers
  • EXPERIENCE: 3 to 5+ years of dedicated, hands-on CNC setup and operation experience
  • OVERTIME BONUSES: Tiered milestone cash bonuses paid directly to operators for voluntary overtime hours
  • SHOP MODEL: Assigned "home machine" model with brand-new, leading-edge equipment (no used machinery)

If you are an experienced machinist who is tired of corporate volatility, empty management promises, and constantly being bounced from one machine to another, this direct-hire track offers a rare level of long-term career stability. This highly successful, independent, family-owned custom job shop has expanded 7 times since 2002. Because they service highly diversified industrial manufacturing sectors, their project pipeline remains remarkably steady year-round.

This organization invests strictly in brand-new, leading-edge machinery so the team has the absolute best tools to execute their craft. They operate on a proud "home machine" model—once you are assigned to your equipment, you own it, monitor it, and run it independently without micromanagement. The shop culture is built on mutual accountability, clean workspaces, and a true craftsmanship-first attitude. This respect is backed by comprehensive employee benefits, regular team-appreciation events, and an environment where people can realistically build a career until retirement.

What You Will Be Doing (Daily Responsibilities)
  • Set up, adjust, and operate CNC machining equipment independently based on engineering blueprints, job routing sheets, and technical work instructions.
  • Run a variety of high-end machinery including Vertical Machining Centers (VMCs), Horizontal Machining Centers (HMCs), and Mazak horizontal/vertical turning centers.
  • Load, execute, and monitor custom, close-tolerance runs to ensure all components are produced perfectly to print and quality specifications.
  • Own your workstation by tracking tool wear, performing minor operator-level machine maintenance (like fluid checks and filter changes), and maintaining a clean, safe cell.
  • Partner with the second-shift lead and a dedicated maintenance department to optimize machine uptime and maintain steady workflow across the shop floor.
What We Are Looking For (Requirements & Qualifications)
  • 3 to 5+ years of verifiable, hands-on CNC setup and operation experience across VMCs, HMCs, and multi-axis turning centers.
  • A stable employment history that demonstrates professional reliability and long-term commitment to past employers.
  • Strong technical blueprint reading skills and the ability to confidently use precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges) to verify part dimensions.
  • A high level of personal accountability, independent problem-solving instincts, and pride in high-quality craftsmanship.
  • Full commitment to the fixed 2nd shift schedule (Monday – Thursday, 10-hour days), with the desire to capture high-earning voluntary overtime (typically available on Fridays).
  • Technical school training or a CNC machining certificate is a plus, but proven hands-on field craftsmanship is highly valued.
