Summary of Position
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) plays an integral role in the success of our team, our community and creating a place our residents are proud to call home. The primary purpose of this position is to provide assistance in all Nursing Department functions as directed/instructed and in accordance with established Nursing Department policies and procedures and assist residents with activities of daily living.
Essential Job Functions
  • Provide physical support to assist residents to perform daily living activities, such as lifting, transfers, assisting with bed mobility, bathing, dressing, toileting, standing, walking, exercising, serving and assisting with meals, and taking vital signs
  • Observes and documents the health, behavior, physical and emotional condition of each resident, promptly reporting all changes to the nurse
  • Responds promptly and courteously to resident call signals, signal lights, bells, or intercom systems to determine residents' needs
  • Promotes personal safety and the safety of the residents with a clean and safe environment for residents by observing infection control practices, following facility guidelines, and reporting unsafe situation to the nurse
  • Communicate with nurses on resident conditions, changes and concerns
  • Complete required documentation in a timely manner
  • Provide companionship, comfort and support to residents
  • Meet federal and state in-service requirements
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Knowledge and Critical Skills
  • Be able to make independent decisions and follow instructions
  • Deal tactfully with personnel, prospects, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the public
  • Capable of working with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset people within the facility
  • Communicate effectively in a manner that is sufficient for effective communication with supervisors, team members, prospects, residents, and families

Education and Experience
  • Must meet all applicable state and federal requirements for this position
  • Prefer 6 months or more of experience in a home care, assisted living, or long-term care facility

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have any direct reports or supervisory requirements
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
Tasks assigned to this position may involve potential and/or direct exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, air contaminants, and hazardous chemicals.
Physical Requirements - The Physical activities of this position involve:
  • Prolonged periods of standing
  • Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring of residents may involve lifting up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry patients
  • Ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles over time without fatigue
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, sit and reach
  • Fine motor skills

Cognitive Requirements - The Cognitive activities with or without prosthetics of this position are:
  • Executes tasks independently
  • Ability to express yourself clearly and effectively verbally
  • Ability to concentrate on moderate details with frequent interruptions
  • Visual acuity
  • Hearing alertness
