Job description

Brown Distributing Company is a leading beverage distributor throughout the state of Virginia. Since 1919, Brown Distributing has grown into a beverage distribution business with combined sales of over 3 million cases annually and serving in excess of 3,000 retailers with nearly 200 employees. We are seeking a career-minded Sales Assistant for our Richmond territory. This is a fun relationship-driven business that requires sales ability, dedication, and exceptional servicing skills.

This position will give you the opportunity to grow with a leader in the wholesale beverage industry, as well as contribute to our continued growth in the market.

Schedule:

Monday - Friday

Start time: 5am-8am depending on department & work until work is complete

Compensation:

Starting Pay: $50,000/year

Vehicle Allowance $550/month

Phone Allowance $15/month

When a sales route becomes available, you will then shift into a commission based structure with performance goal bonuses, along with phone and vehicle allowance tailored to the route.

The Sales Assistant is responsible for assisting the sales team in driving sales, maintaining customer relationships, and providing administrative support. This role involves a blend of customer service, administrative tasks, and general support for the sales process to achieve sales targets. The Assistant Sales Representative position is expected to provide coverage of sales routes for all three sales divisions. Provide superior service and to maximize all sales opportunities on covered routes while learning and continually improving their sales skills.

Sales & Merchandising

  • Maximize distribution of all brands and packages as determined by Sales Department Manager.
  • Secure the best possible selling position for our products in each account. (Including primary displays, secondary displays, coolers, etc.)
  • Maximize permanent, temporary, and promotional secondary displays as determined by Manager.
  • Ensure all sales displays are attractive and reflect current promotions.
  • Sell-in and execute all authorized promotions.
  • Sell sufficient product inventory to eliminate out-of-stock situations.
  • Maintain and increase shelf facings for all BDC products
  • Rotate products in all areas (coolers, backrooms, displays, and warm shelf)
  • Maintain compliance with Brown Distributing Co.s CPR and out of code policies.
    • Utilize Point-Of-Sale materials to stimulate sales

Product Knowledge:

  • Maintain a solid understanding of product offerings, features, and benefits.
  • Stay updated on new products, sales promotions, and marketing materials.
  • Knowing the target audience for each product or service and how it fits into the market.
  • Understanding how products compare to those of competitors in terms of pricing, quality, and functionality.

Servicing

  • Call on each account as scheduled, each day without fail.
  • Create, develop, and maintain professional working relationship in every account.
  • Follow-up on all business commitments to your customers.
  • Service all customer requests in a timely manner.

Related Sales Duties

  • Communicate daily with the drivers, merchandisers, and warehouse staffs to make sure all orders were received.
  • Maintain a neat and clean appearance at all times.
  • Make sure you have current selling tools with you in your vehicle.
  • Drive your vehicle safely, courteously, and obey all traffic regulations. Report all traffic violations to your Manager immediately.
  • Keep your vehicle neat and clean at all times.
  • Maintain accurate records and process all orders, reports, and forms as required.
  • Report all competitive activities to your District Manager.
  • Attend all sales meetings.
  • Follow all safety practices as described in the BDC Safety Manual.
  • Follow all BDC rules and regulations.

Administrative

  • Insure that retail execution of all BDC / Anheuser-Busch programs are carried out and in a professional and timely manner in designated accounts.
  • Target to each account the following specific account objectives:
      • Brand building
      • Distribution
      • Multiple packaging
      • Shelf-space increase
      • Specific sales promotion programs
      • Targeted price points versus competition
  • Complete all necessary market surveys as requested by department

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years related customer service and/or sales experience
  • Beer knowledge preferred
  • Valid Real ID Virginia drivers license is required with no negative points, no DUI convictions or pending DUI convictions, no moving violations in the last 3 years
  • Must be able to communicate comfortably with all customers
  • Ability to consistently and repetitively lift up to 45lbs
